Default Bangladesh's BPL Batting Blues

Batting continues to be Bangladesh's biggest headache in cricket. While our bowlers have put in excellent performances in BPL, our batting has been woeful. If you look at the leading run scorers, there is not a single Bangladeshi in the top 10. 5 have made it in the top 20 with Junaid Siddique being the leading scorer followed by Ashraful, Shakib, Mahmudullah and Mushfiq. Out of these 5 guys only 3 have scored a half century each. The performances of these 5 guys are nothing worth celebrating or getting excited about.

How about others? Tamim Iqbal's absence has been a mystery-lets not get there. Imrul Kayes, Alok Kapali, Shahriar Nafees, Naeem Islam, Hom, Jahurul Islam have all flopped. Nasir Hossain, Aftab Ahmed and Nazimuddin should have been given more opportunity but highly doubt they too would have been able to make an impact.

On a positive side, a few emerging players have impressed. Ziaur Rahman has shown he can be a big hitting all rounder for Bangladesh-something we really need. Anamul Haque, Mominul Haque, Mithun Ali and Sabbir Rahman have all shown their potential.

So why did our national team batsmen flop in BPL? Some will say the format doesnt suit them-our guys like playing strokes but they are not big hitters. Some will say our batsmen were not given enough opportunities. It was the foreigners who were batting in important positions. There will be a hundred reasons like this and excuses. But the flaws our evident. They dont have the right mindset, choose to attack the wrong ball, they dont rotate strike, and they dont place any value on their wickets. This tournament should give a lot of food for thought for BCB and Law. Law being a batsmen needs to sort out the problems our guys are facing. But seeing the performance of Naeem, Hom, Kayes who were in Law's team, dont know whether he can achieve anything for Bangladeshi cricket.

What is your opinion on why our batsmen flopped?
