How do you know that the umpires were not playing along with the reporter to notify the authority? May be the Indian TV got their news out before the umpires could.
The umpires could just as easily make a case in their defense saying that they were approached for match fixing and were simply playing along. They were investigating about the sports management body and gathering information to pass to the ICC. In the meantime the Indian TV made them villains.
