The leaf itself is not a drug. However its one of the ingredients inside, the betel nut (supari), which is considered to be a mild stimulant.

Paan pata (leaves) are basically of 2 types: shada (plain) and miththa (sweet) pata.

It is a custom here to serve mishti paan as a refreshment at ceremonies after the feast. I use to have 5-6 of them one after another.
