Taylor does have a point.

In the case of Bangladesh, its different. Without BPL our guys wouldnt get the chance to play alongside or against top quality international cricketers.

For Australia the situation is different. The career path of an Australian batsmen used to be very very difficult. Normally a played had to score heaps of runs in domestic cricket, enjoy 2-3 county stints, play enough A team cricket, and then wait for an opening before making it into the national team. By that time most batsmen are 28-29, extremely mature, battle hardened with close to 10,000 FC runs and average above 45. Hayden, Langer, Katich, Martyn, Hussey all had to take this arduous route. Even a very talented Ponting and Clarke made debut at 24, which is quite late compared to sub continental standards.

Mark Taylor's point is young Aussie batsmen may not find this difficult route tempting anymore. By playing a month and a half in IPL they can earn what they would earn in a year. And on top of that add all the glamor and jazz.
