In this context, I remember one famous incident involving cricket legend W. C. Grace:
At the very beginning of one of his innings he was given LBW. He then went to umpire and said the spectators came to see his (WCG's) game not the umpire's game; so he should not be given out.
Our batsmen think similarly about their batting ability (only problem is that they lack that ability). They don't care about the situation; in fact, they don't care about anything. So, I don't think they will not play like night-watchman - they will entertain us with brief flurry of shots and then the will get out - their job is done!
