You are right, it will be just like you mentioned, except that there'll be no knockout matches in round 1. But I doubt whether ICC will go with exactly the same format starting from round 2 for the 50 over version. 23 matches is too less for a big event like a 50 over world cup. Have a feeling they'll include the quarterfinals then, because its 50 overs, and definitely a number 1 positioned team in a certain group will have definite advantage over a number 4 placed team in other group. Let's see.
