Sovik, what's your take on that ?
Couple years ago, the
best comedian in the 'Last comic standing' was a person with physical disabilty (actually, he has cerebral palsy), who one could mistake for someone 'special'. He continously made fun of his appearence. People laughed WITH him and he has a nice fan following. While I have no idea how someone in those circumstances feel but I get a feeling that they'd prefer not to get singled out and feel like a normal person without everyone focusing on their disability, staring at them, taking pity on them, etc. I haven't seen the movie so I'm not sure if they pushed the envelope or not.
I was rooting for him all the way. He won not because of his disability (he didn't call it disability) but because he was geniunely funny.
