Couple years ago, the best comedian in the 'Last comic standing' was a person with physical disabilty (actually, he has cerebral palsy), who one could mistake for someone 'special'. He continously made fun of his appearence. People laughed WITH him and he has a nice fan following. While I have no idea how someone in those circumstances feel but I get a feeling that they'd prefer not to get singled out and feel like a normal person without everyone focusing on their disability, staring at them, taking pity on them, etc. I haven't seen the movie so I'm not sure if they pushed the envelope or not.
I was rooting for him all the way. He won not because of his disability (he didn't call it disability) but because he was geniunely funny. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josh_Blue. I just read his wiki bio and the 'palsy punch' cracked me up, again. Check out his website too: http://www.joshblue.com/. Life gives us hell, sometimes we need a little bit of humor to forget the pain and suffering and instead, look for some sunshine. SMILE. I command you!
