As tagfirullah.
It is called doing your homework.
Since you asked: So here are some tips.
1. You need to know the pitches.
2. Doesn't matter how many players you have as long as you can predict a favorable outcome, example: Eden garden: You have Naraine and GG. Who will you choose? Naraine of course. Were as same players at Bangalore You go with GG.
3. Fringe players gets you some serious points and allows you to have money to manage. R Sharma, Vogra, etc.
4. Foreign players history is big. Pollard, Cooper, Malinga vs Tait, Harris, Morkel brothers. Again depending on pitches I would choose players.
5. Rahul, GG, Kallis all are very good players yet their 4 and 6 ratio is among the worst. I'd Rahane, Dhawan, Morgan over them.
6. Plan your transfers according to the schedules. 3 per day would be enough.
It is not a hit and miss. It is calculated guess looking at stats.
This is just the tip of the ice-berg. There are so many other things to consider as well.
