Compatibility stretches beyond W3C design standards. Opera has severe backwards compatibility issues with major web-based applications, rich-text editors and across other operating systems. The reason being newer versions tend go back to square one and make it even harder for developers to keep up or start from scratch with so called new or revised "standards". It's just inconsistency, at least from Opera I'd expect it more readily support existing web standards.
