I like to think politeness is a standard on its own. It doesn't hurt to be polite. In real life, if you are a d***, you do that with the knowledge that the person you are di***** may knock your head out. Unfortunately, that fear is not present online. So the least a forum can do is hand out bans (or some sort of punishments).
