the population density is so so high in old dhaka (and begunbari as well)... that it doesnt need a natural calamity to kill so many people. Even if a car break fails in the narrow streets of old dhaka, it can kill 10 ppl on the spot...

This is so unfortunate and I pray for the departed souls. But I dont see how this can be stopped any time soon. Its simply beyond the control of the fire dept... and I bet it took them hours to reach the fire through the narrow inaccessible streets...

the thing is ppl living in those conditions are well aware of the risk of living in a poorly built house right underneath a dilapidated transformer or next to a questionable chemical storage.... but they simply dont have anywhere else to go...
