The proposals from President
Tigercricket.com Report
11-January-2008

The President of Bangladesh Cricket Board Maj. Gen. Sina Ibn Jamali awc, psc invited the Officials from Dhaka Premier and First Division Clubs for an open discussion at Hotel Sheraton Ball Room on Thursday the 10th January 2008

In his speech the President thanked the clubs from Dhaka for their contributions towards Bangladesh Cricket. “During the heydays of our domestic cricket famous cricketers like Wasim Akram, Arjuna Ranatunga, Sanath Jayasuria, Rumesh Kaluvitharana, Ajay Jadeja, Neil Fairbrother, Brendon Kuruppu, Arun Lal, Shahid Afridi played for different clubs. With their participation our club cricket became more glamorous, competition became fiercer.”

The President recalled his memory of that time and told, “We did not get the Test status then. We were not used to play regular one-day cricket except Asia Cup. The financial condition of Cricket Board was not that good. In that period the clubs from Dhaka supported our cricket tremendously. For that I am grateful to them.”

“We plan to revive the domestic cricket at any cost. We have to do that if we want to be successful with the national team. We have formed a committee named ‘Domestic Cricket Review Committee’ to develop our domestic cricket structure. The committee comprises of former General Secretary of Bangladesh Cricket Board, former coach, former players. They have been working constantly. After that they will submit us a report. We will try to follow that in order to develop our domestic cricket.”

The President also vowed to increase the umpires’ skill through Umpires Education Course.

Maj. Gen. Sina Ibn Jamali awc, psc told that BCB has already doubled the donation for the clubs. “BCB intends to build some concrete pitches and turf pitches for the clubs. We will build that outside the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. The clubs can use those pitches for practice.”

“I want to submit another proposal to you”-continued President, “During the domestic season the club cricketers get injured at times. In many occasion they do not get the proper treatment. For the injury management, BCB will provide a local physio from the next domestic season. He will be at Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium three days in a week. The injured cricketers can go to him. In serious cases he will refer the injured players to the foreign physio.”

“The BCB Medical Committee has also decided to provide proper treatment to the cricketers who will suffer the head injury. We all know that India’s cricketer Raman Lamba died after being hit on the head while fielding during a club match in Bangladesh. Keeping that on mind we are going to take this step.”

Maj. Gen. Sina Ibn Jamali awc, psc told, “BCB has got a central coaching cell that comprises of national and international specialist coaches. The coaches of the clubs can go to them for any kind of assistance. From the next season pre-season camp will be held for the players. Then the clubs will get the cricketers at top of their physical condition from the start of the season. We would also like to build some gymnasium for the club cricketers.”

The President acknowledged the lack of quality grounds and wickets throughout Dhaka. “But we do have some quality grounds and pitches outside. If we can arrange some matches of the Dhaka Club Cricket there, then the problem will be solved by large. I want your opinion on this issue. We have a plan to organize longer version cricket competition with the participation of clubs from Dhaka. In the future we want to arrange some exhibition matches during the tours of ‘A’ teams of the Test playing nations and national teams of non Test playing countries. The champion team of club cricket or ‘CCDM XI’ might play against them.

“We would love to send the league champion team to tour somewhere in the subcontinent. In that case BCB will help them financially. I want to know your opinion on this matter

“We are thinking about increasing the prize money for the champion and runners-up team in Dhaka’s club cricket.”

“We are considering to give the scholarship to the young talents from first division and premier division.”

“We would welcome at least two cricketers from each club to attend in the coaching courses.”

“We are also planning to hold some cricket oriented workshop. The coaches, match referees, umpires, physiotherapists can share their experience during those workshops. Our Cricket will be benefited by that.
