Default Trainer For Tigers

Stuart Karppinen has been selected as the strength and conditioning coach of the Tigers, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Monday.

The Australian replaces fitness advisor Justin Cordy, also an Australian, whose contract was not renewed on health grounds earlier this month.

The Tigers have been left without a trainer following Cordy’s departure for home. Dean Woodford, who had been the trainer before Cordy, parted company with the Bangladesh team last month. Karppinen is expected to join in the first week of November which means the Tigers will have to do without a trainer for the home series against New Zealand starting next week. New Zealand arrive on Tuesday for a two-Test and three-ODI series against Bangladesh.

Karppinen holds a bachelor degree in health science from the University of Sydney. He has also optioned a diploma in education with physical education as his major from Edith Cowan University. Although he does not possess any experience of coaching international cricket teams, Karppinen has however worked with the Australian Institute of Sports, ACT Cricket Association and Western Australian Cricket Association.

The BCB meanwhile, is also on a lookout for a new physiotherapist after long-serving Australian John Gloster reportedly rendered his resignation recently. Gloster has been Bangladesh’s physio since 2001.
