On a Neutral perspective, I do not like the format actually. It can make the month long group matches boring. Correct me if I am wrong -
- 4 teams from each group will make it to the knock-out Quarter-Final. That means all the 4 big teams from each group just need to make sure they do not loose to Minnows. It will ensure the QF ticket. So, the matches between them in group stage has actually no weight at all.
- For Bangladesh, If we can beat Ireland, Netherlands, and England (Assuming they will loose to WI, SA, IND), we can go through to the QF. One Eid innings from Ashraful (
) in QF, we are through to Semi-Finals.
Is it ensuring the best team would be the Champion? Actually from the format, the real WC matches are 3 matches beginning from QF;
The big 8 teams would be thinking like - Don't loose to minnows in group stages, then win 3 in a row, and become the champion.
