Pietersen set to miss England's Twenty20 Bangladesh warm-up

Monday, 26, Apr 2010 04:26

By Richard James.

Kevin Pietersen is set to miss England's first warm-up game ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 in the Caribbean so he can be with his pregnant wife.

England take on Bangladesh on Wednesday ahead of the competition which begins on April 30th.

Pietersen recently returned to the UK after playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and will now spend a couple of days with his wife Jessica Taylor before heading to the Caribbean to meet up with the team.

However, England captain Paul Collingwood confirmed Pietersen could also miss the final stages of the tournament, if the team get that far, to return for when Taylor gives birth.

"Kevin is spending a little time with Jessica. It is not a problem for him to arrive here two days late because he is already in good form and in Twenty20 mode," he said.

"She is due to give birth near the end of the tournament so it is possible that he might have to leave at some later stage."

Collingwood added: "He's obviously 'cricket-fit' and I think one of the major things is that the guys who have been out in the IPL have certainly got their brains switched on towards Twenty20 cricket which obviously helps.

"He'll just slide straight into the top order. The first warm-up game, he'll probably not play, but the second one he will come in. I have no issues with that."

England take on Bangladesh and South Africa this week ahead of their first game of the competition, against the West Indies, next month.
