New Age: Brothers Union face severe punishment
Brothers Union are facing severe punishment for their alleged involvement in a fracas during a Dhaka Premier Cricket League match, said the officials Bangladesh Cricket Board on Thursday.
The supporters of the club have allegedly foiled their match against Partex at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium at the time when the latter were verging towards victory needing just six runs off 10 balls with four wickets in hand.
On reading the news of the incident last morning, sports adviser Tapan Chowdhury instructed the Bangladesh Cricket Board to investigate
the matter and punish the culprits, said the sources in the BCB.
‘The BCB is concerned over the unhappy incident that took place at the fag end of the match between Brothers Union and Partex and has initiated an inquiry into the matter. An investigation will be conducted by the CCDM and necessary disciplinary action will be taken as per the tournament by-laws,’ said the BCB later in a media release.
The Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) officials said they will hold a hearing on the matter on Saturday and will punish the responsible persons.
‘Considering the version of the witnesses, it seems the supporters of Brothers Union are responsible for the incident. So it is almost sure they will be punished severely,’ said a CCDM official asking not to be named.
