Mehrab (Jr.) the fresh face
TigerCricket.com Report
27-August-2006

Left-handed batsman Mehrab Hossain (Jr.) was the only newcomer in an 18-man preliminary Bangladesh squad announced today (Sunday) for September’s ICC Champions Trophy in India.
The 19-year-old Mehrab has been a consistent run-getter at domestic, under-19 and A team levels and has also been a prolific scorer for the National Cricket Academy team which is currently touring Pakistan. He started off as an opener but has tasted success in other positions in the top order. Mehrab is not a natural stroke-maker but provides a calming influence in the middle by accumulating runs. His left-arm orthodox spin has proved useful in limited overs cricket.
Apart from including Mehrab the selectors have decided to keep the whole group that had toured Zimbabwe and Kenya recently. The squad will report for duty on August 29 to Tigers’ fitness training coach Paul Chapman at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur.
The BCCB has also named the players to represent Bangladesh in the Asian Super Sixes Challenge 2006 in the Pakistani city of Karachi. The hard hitting sixes side has Mohammad Rafique, Mashrafee Bin Mortaza, Aftab Ahmed, Manzural Islam Rana, Sakib Al Hasan, Forhad Reza and the dashing A team opener Nazmus Sadat who has been in excellent form for the A side and the Academy side in recent months.
The tournament will be held from September 13-18.

Champions Trophy: Tigers' preliminary squad likely to be announced on Sunday
TigerCricket.com Report
26-August-2006

The Bangladesh national cricket team’s training camp for the ICC Champions Trophy in India begins at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur from Wednesday.
The national selectors have chosen an 18-member preliminary squad for the competition which is expected to be officially announced on Sunday. The list might contain one or two fresh faces that have attracted the attention of the selectors by performing at various levels in recent times.
There will be some high intensity fitness training under physical training coach Paul Chapman and assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin during the first 10 days of the camp beginning with a fitness test for all on day one. The Tigers’ coaching staff have incorporated fielding drills with their fitness regime and Salahuddin, who is also the team’s fielding specialist, will be conducting separate ‘fielding fitness’ sessions for the boys with Chapman.
The pace bowlers will undergo a power endurance session in the first week while there will be strength training for the full squad. For certain players there will be high intensity aerobic.
Coach Dav Whatmore, who is out of the country, is expected back in Dhaka on Thursday. The squad will have their first net session on September 5.
Bangladesh play their first match of the Champions Trophy’s qualifying round against Sri Lanka on October 7 at Mohali. They then travel to Jaipur to face the West Indies on October 11 and Zimbabwe on October 13.
