Playing deliveries also depend on technique. A high back-lift generally allows the batsman to play off the back foot easier. I may be generalizing, but from my own experience, and by watching players like Ponting and Lara, I'm pretty sure that's the case. Ashraful has a pretty high back-lift, as well as Aftab, and thus they're very much capable of playing back foot shots well, aided by their lack of height.
