BSF abducts 7 workers at Sylhet border

Star Online Report
Indian border guards abducted seven workers of a stone quarry from Sreepur border in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet Sunday evening.

Officials of Border Guard Bangladesh identified six of the victims as Shahed Ahmed, 22, Abdus Samad, 20, Selim Ahmed, 20, Nurul Islam, 20, Morshed Alam, 25, and Abdul Karim, 18.

UNB named the other abductee as Humayun, 23.

All of the abductees are from Asampara village near the point of their abduction.

According to locals and BGB sources, some members of Border Security Force (BSF) from India’s Naljuri camp intruded into Bangladesh territory and abducted the seven stone workers while they were working at a stone quarry around 5:00pm Sunday.

Naljuri BSF men handed over the seven workers to Dauki Police Station in India the following day, Sreepur BGB Camp Commander Havilder Abu Bakr told The Daily Star citing officials of Naljuri BSF camp Tuesday noon.

“The BSF said they will inform us about their decision after discussing the matter with the Dauki Police Station,” the commander added.

Though the BGB officials were aware of the abduction immediately after it happened, they did not disclose the information to the media until newsmen contacted them Tuesday, our correspondent reported.
