To add further, Shaikh Hamza Yusuf is a strict Maliki by Madhab (school of jurisprudence) and Ash'ari/Maturidi by creed/theology which is the dominant school of 'Aqeedah in Ahlus Sunnah Wa Al-jama'ah. He received his knowledge/Ijaza from traditional scholars such as Murabit Al-Hajj and Abdullah Ibn Bayyah of Shinqit amongst others. And he is in constant consultation with other leading scholars of this age. Shaykh Sa'id Ramadan Al-Buti of Damascus (whom I had the pleasure of meeting and learning from and may Allah preserve him) considers him to be the most knowledgable amongst the western 'ulamaa/scholars!
