for that, I would refer to earlier works of humayun ahmed and shamsul hoque. eishob din ratri is a great natok if you want to see and understand how life was like in early 1980s middle class Dhaka.
Thank you for the above and I now wish that my original post had not led to truncating your response, please feel free to widen the scope of the discussion if you feel like contributing more!

The problem, as one gets older and loses all those members of the family who would have had a great deal to tell is that each new perspective requires a little longer for me paint in my own little self at that time, but that in itself is a fun exercise. It is an absolute pity that Sohel is no longer an active member here as he would certainly have contributed much to the thread. But maybe, there are others who might come across this thread and say a few words about their own experiences or anecdotes they have heard about at the dining table.
