Default BPL 2017

Didnt see a thread for this so admins, merge if I am wrong.

Need a break from international cricket. Its just way too frustrating, pathetic right now. So BPL comes in an idea time.

Teams stacking up nicely for the most part. Everyone other then maybe Chittagong looks competitive. With the SA T20 cancelled, expect some more signings as we get closer.

Going to give a short summary of the teams in 2s

Rangpur and Dhaka

For now, the Dhaka Vs Rangpur battle is heating up big time. The 2 powerhouses of Bangladesh Beximco and Bashundhara group are just going at it. Dhaka initially filled up the squad with a lot of big names but Rangpur is just going a step ahead right now. Team looks seriously stacked with the recent signing of Malinga, Gayle, McCulum. All 3 of them are expected to play majority and Gayle already confirmed the whole tournament. Not to mention they have Badree, Lyth, Charles, Pererra, Kusal, Wiley who are all T20 experts. Local pool is equally good with Mash-Nafees-Mithun-Rubel-Raj-Gazi-Ibadat. This is a team thats gonna be very hard to beat even if they perform at 70%. Gayle-Mc-Nafees in the top order would be deadly if they get going. Sort of weak bowling as Mash is no specialist and Malinga is on a decline. Raj can be expensive too. But these are experienced players and the conditions will be in favor for them.

Rangpur squad:

Mashrafe Mortaza, Samuel Badree, Johnson Charles, Mohammad Mithun, Sohag Gazi, Rubel Hossain, Samiullah Shenwari, Abdur Razzak, Ebadat Hossain, Elias Sunny, Nahidul Islam, Zahir Khan, David Willey, Ravi Bopara, Adam Lyth, Thisara Perera, Kusal Perera, Shahriar Nafees, Nazmul Islam, Ziaur Rahman, Fazle Mahmud, Sam Hain, Chris Gayle, Lasith Malinga, Brandon McCullum

best possible 11

Chris Gayle
Brandon McCullum
Adam Lyth
Shahriar Nafees
Mithun Ali
Shamsur Rahman
Mashrafe Mortaza (c)
Abdur Razzak
Rubel Hossain
Samuel Badree
Lasith Malinga

Dhaka was stacked from before. Shak-Mosa-Rony-Maruf-Shahid-Sajib and then an army of foreign recruits including Sanga, Amir, Narine, Watson, Lewis-Rovman and many more. Looks like they still didnt feel enough and picked Pollard recently too. I wonder what they are gonna do with so many foreign recruits. But nonethless, they have a packed squad and majority of their international recruits are available all season. Its gonna be a treat to see Shak-Narine-Amir bowling combo. Possibly as deadly as it gets in T20. The only thing that Dhaka will have to work is team combination. They cant get caught up with playing Watson-Afridi even if they dont perform.

Dhaka Squad

Shakib Al Hasan, Rovman Powell, Ronsford Beaton, Sunil Narine, Shahid Afridi, Graeme Cremer, Mohammad Amir, Shaheen Afradi, Nadif Chowdhury, Saqlain Sajib, Joe Denly. Akeal Hosein, Khaled Ahmed, Shadman Islam, Noor Hossain, Kumar Sangakkara, Cameron Delport, Shane Watson. Evin Lewis, Kevon Cooper, Mehedi Maruf, Mosaddek Hossain, Abu Hider Rony, Mohammad Shahid, Jahurul Islam, Keiron Pollard

Best Possible 11

Mehedi Maruf
Evin Lewis
Sangakara
Shakib Al Hasan (c)
Mosaddek Hossain
Shane Watson
Sunil Narine
Jahirul Islam
Mohammad Shahid
Mohammad Amir
Saqlain Sajib

Rangpur my side. Yes, people do support outside their own place. I always had soft spot for Rangpur, I don’t know why, but just do. I have no relations there and neither will I ever likely to visit there in this life time, unless I get married there (which is 99% won’t happen), or if there’s such sightseeing must see they have and if ever I go for a country tour.

But anyway, I firmly like RR side, this year they seem HOT FAVOURITES to win BPL, IMO. It’s a part of BD hardly gets much notice/attention, no international cricket held there nor BPL, much under developed. Winning BPL will give the regions youths/future generations a big boost.

We Bengali are used to watching too much Indian Fixing Premier League. I saw the CPL this year. A competition that was lower scoring then BPL and yet, it didnt stop the the crowd from enjoying it. Crowd turnout was maxed out throughout. They come to the field to have fun and to watch their players.

Besides, with the added venue, better players this time, the scoring can only get better

No i hate ipl to the dlf maximum. Low scoring games can be exciting. I was just lamenting the fact that we dont have any exciting power hitters and the sad reality that we are left with watching a 40 ball 42 from Jahirul as the defining innings of a game. Every other side has guys who can hit except us.

Supporting Sylhet.

Still not sure of what they are called. Some news papers calling them Surma Sixers Sylhet, others Sylhet Sixers. Whatever it is, likely to come last. So far, a very poor team. I think we will be competing with Chittagong Vikings for the last position.

Only positive. Waqar Younis is the team mentor. Hopefully Abul Hasan can pick something from him. If he can't learn anything from Waqar and improve... than he can forget International cricket.

So global T20 is not happening this time. The teams have now good opportunity to take better players which rangpur did. Sorry for dhaka they filled up their squad already with some mediocre players. Specially ctg need some good players to stay competitive.

Thank you. Pakistanis are not coming; so Sarfraz, Shadab, Imran Ali are not playing, correct?

We have a decent team. Post season shouldn't be out of reach.

The Nepal series and the Asia Cup will keep U/19 players busy till Nov 20. Hope to see Saif, Afif, Mishu, Anik, etc to get some BPL matches after that.

Seems like much better MEDIA coverage already, more promos, youtube videos, more hype, more ads, etc. Something channel 9 never did. GTV is miles better than channel 9 whos quality was so poor.

Team preview part 2

Comilla squad

Or rather I should say "Carachi Victorians". Komola Shundori apa has come back well with a much stronger squad. Not that they didnt have a good squad last time, their team combination was just horrific. It will be interesting to see how they perform after swapping the most successful skipper with the least successful one. Their local retention of Kayes and Liton are also laughable but they could prove everyone wrong with a comeback season. They picked up Arafat and Al Amin who are arguably among the top limited over bowlers in the country. Their foreign recruit list is long but almost half of their recruits are from Pakistan. Despite that, Shoib Malik, Hasan Ali, Rashid Khan, Jos Butler, DJ Bravo are good enough to get some Ws alone. Hopefully Tamim and Butler will get some runs up the order which Comilla lacked in the previous years. They will need to get fans with performance because getting rid of the fan favorite skipper will definitely have an impact on the fan base

Full Team

Tamim Iqbal, Solomon Mire, Mohammad Nabi, Rashid Khan, Mohammad Saifuddin, Al-Amin Hossain, Arafat Sunny, Alok Kapali, Mehedy Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Rana, Enamul Haque, Raqibul Hasan, Imrul Kayes, Marlon Samuels, Darren Bravo, Shoaib Malik, Jos Buttler, Hasan Ali, Rumman Raees, Fahim Ashraf , Imran Khan jnr, Liton Das.

Rajshahi squad

The dark horse of last BPL. Like last time, they have stacked up the team with some serious local talents. Equipped with Fizz, Mushy, Miraz, Reza, Miraz, Zakir they are no short of local talent. Bowling will be heavily improved with Fizz in the side and Mushy is probably better off at this home team with issues in previous editions with other teams. They have once again chosen a moderate foreign list and it will interesting to see how they perform against some of the power houses like Dhaka, Rangpur. They will have to heavily rely on the locals to get some results this time. Among foreign players, Kesrick, Luke and Simmons are key players. They would do better to get a few more consistent players in the side if they wanna be a contender.

Full Team:
Mushfiqur Rahim (Icon), Mustafizur Rahman, Nihaduzzaman, Zakir Hasan, Hossain Ali, Mehedi Hasan, Rony Talukdar, Mominul Haque, Farhad Reza, Qazi Onik, Naeem Islam Jr
Darren Sammy, Mohammad Sami, Lendl Simmons, Malcolm Waller, Kesrick Williams, Samit Patel, James Franklin, Luke Wright, Raza Ali Dar, Usama Mir

I think among the BPL teams , Comilla, Barisal, and Sylhet have a strong and passionate fan base. They are living all over the country in large numbers, especially in Dhaka and Chittagong. If Comilla becomes a division, than the Noakhali people will be added too. Hopefully in future Comilla will be a venue also. Couple of years back I was in the stadium to watch Comilla-Barisal final. It was an electrifying atmosphere (similar to Abahani-Mohammedan match of the 70s). Tickets were sold for tk 2000 in the black market. I thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Where are those jersey release pictures?

I saw on Carlos Brathwaite's instagram story the launch of the jersey for Khulna Titans...

It's red and black with golden numbers. Kinda like Trinbago's jersey in this past CPL

No BPL 5 fantasy thread as of yet. Tournament starts next week. I've skipped this tournament, so I can prepare my team to win this year's edition of BPL.
