Default Why can't we play the spinners better?

We supposed to be weak against seamers. However, openers plyed the seamers well today. Nevertheless, we can also make an argument that we do not have enough quality seamers and bouncy pitches to practice on. But what is confusing is that we regularly fail against good spinners. Is it just that Vittori has figured out our batsmen as well as our bowlers? It seems that he owns us in both departments. Without his performances we could have been respectable in the first ODI. CI smade and interesting observation today. "Guptill came into the attack to clean up the tail, but the hosts are likely to be fairly content with their bowling effort which was led yet again by Vettori, who was typically influential in the middle overs. Worryingly for the Bangladesh batsmen, their inability to handle Vettori effectively was reiterated, and it is something they will look to work on ahead of the second ODI in Dunedin on Monday. " I think this will be difficult. We not only lack in speedstars, we are also owefully one-dimensional in our spin bowling department. Our batsmen are easliy fooled by doosra's/ googlies and variations in flight. If our spinners do not master these tricks themselves, our batsmen will reamin clueless agains the like Murali and Vittori due lack of practice.

We cannot play against seamers and we cannot play agains spinners. We played great against Zimbabwee and 2nd tier West Indies hence, everyone thinks we are a great team, but fail miserably against quality team. Something is wrong with our coaching.

Why? because the moment the spinners are on, the fear is lifted, which gives them a sense of sudden relaxation, which leads them to believe the worst is over, and they play recklessly in hopes to recover the runs lost earlier. More people die in 35 mph speed zone than 65..

Very well put.

My observation: all the BD spinners together are not equal to Vittori in one game.
We should focus on quality, not on the quantity of the spinners.

We played against the pacers really well. Some of them were bowling around 140 kmh but they still got creamed

We are attributing this to mental lapses. However, the way I see it, it is the lack of practice aginst quality opposition is the cause of repeated failures. Digging out of it is only possible if there are enough local talents to compete against each other. In a way this is a circular argument. Actually, it means that we got thrust into the bigger arena prematurely. Now, we have to endure these humiliation publicly for years to come.

We struggle against Leggies and even more against SLAs which is surprising since our batsmen have a dozen SLAs to practice against in domestic cricket and they are decent as well. Vetorri, Price, Ojha, Kaneria...anyone who turns it away from the batsman will knock down our line-up. Off-spinners on the other hand don't bother us that much...Bhajji averaged over 50 against us in the Test series. Our boys can handle Murali pretty well. This is why I am hopeful about the England series. Swann is an offie and if they plan to play two spinners then their second choice spinner Tredwell is also an off-spinner. Plus their strike bowler Anderson is being rested. I am hopeful to see a 400+ score in at least one innings.

The reason is simple, most of the *spinners* we have are just slow bowlers. Hardly anyone gets any turn[unless the pitch is helpful]. Starting from Moni, Rafique to Razzak, no one really extracts much turn, they are slow bowlers who bowl on the spot, use the quicker one well and have a good head. Where Vettori/Murali and other good spinners turn the ball on almost any surface. So, we would not struggle against slow bowlers, but will do against spin bowlers.
PS: The leg spinners are barred, as we dont have any top quality leg spinners atm.

Vettori can turn on any surface? Poor observation.

Vettori relies on bounce and speed variation because he mostly plays on hard surface (NZ wickets). He spins the least among the top bowlers.

Any bowler who bowls stump to stump is dangerous bowler for bd. It doesnt matter whether he is fast bowler or spinner. Bowlers like Collingwood and Symonds destroyed us earliar. Lack of footwork also doesnt help our batsmen. I hardly see any of our batsmen are coming down the track for a single. They come down the track only to hit sixes.
