Smile Award cheers up ailing Tamim

Wisden Cricketer's Player of the Month

Award cheers up ailing Tamim: Source Daily Star

Tamim Iqbal
Sports Reporter

Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal achieved his first international award when the left-hander became Wisden Cricketer Magazine's International Cricketer of the Month in its May 2010 edition.

Tamim is the first Bangladeshi player to be named as, the world's best-selling cricket monthly's, International Cricketer of the Month. This edition will be out in the market on April 23.

"It's really nice to be recognised for my performance. I am happy because it's my first international award but as I said earlier I have a big goal to win an ICC award," said Tamim, who is suffering from an injury.

"But above everything I am now looking forward to the T20 World Cup. There is still pain on my injured left hand and after tomorrow's check I can only say whether I will be able to play the tournament or not," said the Chittagonian, who suffered the injury while fielding in the NCL T20 competition.

The dashing left-hander already has Test centuries against India and West Indies and will be heading for England with his confidence high after averaging 59.25 in two Tests against Alastair Cook's team in Bangladesh.

"I set the goal of scoring Test and one-day hundreds against all other Test-playing countries. And I am very much confident about achieving my target," said Tamim.
"But my immediate goal is to play some good knocks against England at their own soil," he added.

****************************

Now Tamim my friend, look for the Wisden Cricketer Magazine\\\'s International Cricketer of the year. We all are behind you

Sorry guys for too many forward-slashes. I don\'t know what is wrong with my PC. Everytime i type something forward-slashes gets in the way even though i don\'t even go close to the forward slash key Sorry.

I like the goal of scoring 100's against all other countries.

The one thing that Tamim needs to work on is partnership building and once he gets the grip of that and other BD batsmen give him the proper support, he will create stats Ash and Bashar could only dream of. (this is not Bashar and Ash bashing, just a comparison since those two have long been the batting standard for BD cricket).

This is just the beginning of many great things to come for Tamim Iqbal Khan, the most effectively talented batsman we have produced to date. Proud to be his kind! ...

I always supported Tamim, even when you guys thought that he should be banished to the U19 team in 2007, he had that hidden talent in him just waiting to be shown and with hard work on his part, he has developed into a good opening batsman. Still has a lot of work to do to improve, and sometimes after a good score, he throws it away. I am hoping that by the time he is 25yrs old, he will be one of the best batsmen of the world.
