Rajin is a very capable batsmen in BD standards, his inclusion may not make much of a difference but atleast it served Rokon a lesson - no more free trip, either you perform or you pay for it. Nafees would have been a good choice but let's look at it this way, both Nafees and Rajin are young and have years of cricket ahead of them. I won't be too worried about it. By the way, Rajin bowls fairly well and can take wickets on his day.

Alamgir Kabir is there most probably to see what our pace reserve is like. Masri will head that dept with either Tapash and Manju. Alamgir will be the back up, he have had good experiences with the youth teams. Is it his time to shine ? Maybe not, but he could learn from the tour.

Fahim Muntahir sumit is just unlucky, as someone already pointed out in the board. He never got thru because of Rafique and Moni. With Rafique still playing, he is sidelined. It may not work out against top class bowlers but he did have a few good knocks in the local leagues. IN future, he may find himself sidelined for the likes of Moni Jr and others.

Does this mean BD is taking 5 pacers into a series where the wickets are spinner friendly?

Well now that looks more like it. Manjurul in, and Al-Shahriar out to contemplate his future. Looke like Dav is ready to push his team for some competitive performances. The only drawback I still see is the inclusion and form of the captain. I hope in addition to Ash and Alok they include a specialist spinner in tests who can send down 30 overs, so El Capitan does not feel obligated to bowl himself.:P

Captain may bowl, but he really needs to know when to start bowling and when to stop.

Remember Khaled Mahmud's feat against Pakistan in WC. This was the same man of the match, taking 3 wickets (Shahid Afridi, Injamam-ul-Huq and Saleem Malik's wickets). Let's hope and pray that he can accomplish a turnaround and give us a second victory against PAK. I am especially hoping he takes INZI"S wicket.

Bowler's performance vary from time to time and even over to over. Every good bowler is aware of it. Captain's job is to use bowlers intelligently. Mashud, being bowler and captain himself, seems to be biased towards his own performance.

I like this team! It's good that they left most of the Australia team intact.

I hope Shanto and Mushfiq DON"T take away playing time in the one days from the obviously better players on the test squad (with the notable exception of Sujon), but we can debate that one later.

I know people wanted a second spinner instead of the 5th paceman, but I wonder if a third opener would have been better - too bad Bidyut was injured. With Rokon gone, this brings an end to our opener debates unless Ashraful is back in the picture.

As for bowling 30 overs - both Rafique (and especially Moni Sr.) routinely have bowled 30 overs a day in tests. Naimur couldn't bowl more than 6 at a stretch.

Default Re: Bidyut

Disappointed to see Bidyut not included in the Test side. Does anyone have details on his injury? I guess it doesn't matter now. I am looking forward to seeing Rajin perform. I would have liked to have seen another new talent in the team.

Some of the BD batsmen are getting too comfortable being in the national team after underperforming. I was hoping that Sanwar, like Rokon, would be omitted as well. His needs to contemplate how to get more than 15 runs an innings. Other than that the team is pretty much what I expected.

Not a bad selection, I would say. I too am glad that they didn't make too many changes to the team that toured Australia.

The only thing I don't understand is why do they keep adding those three extra ODI players? What does Shanto have that is so tailored to ODIs that Manju does not have? What does Tushar so clearly have that some of the other test bats do not? I think we should stick with the Australia test selection. I'm not so sure about the changes that were made for the ODIs in Australia. In particular, I think those changes for the ODI had the effect of disassembling some of the good team chemistry that had developed during the 2nd test.

Deshitrader, you have put words right from my mouth.

Those changes in the One Day Squad does not feel right. If our 'broad' goal is to get a win in the ODIs especially in Pakistan, then we have to get rid of these little limitations FAST.

In reply to one post: Sujon did his best in England at the 99 world cup, he was also consistent with his bowling at the time.

But later - as time went by, his consistency in the bowling department started to go down, I wonder if that is because we had a good specialist fast bowling coach working with the Bangladesh team besides Gordon Greenidge the main coach during the World Cup 99. Anyway, back to what I was saying - later Sujon played in the 2000 Asia cup and sucked - BIG TIME - against Pakistan, but in the sub continent.

So I think that unless the pitches in Pakistan start becomng like the England ones, Sujon's bowling will not come to much use.

Tushar for ODIs is a good choice most probably, the bowlers are puzzling. I guess these mandatory changes are some sort of effort to create slightly different looks for the 2 teams?

personally i like tushar a lot. i think he is a wonderful player, and he is suited to the one-day game. i believe he is probably bd best batsmen in odi's. he looks more comfortable at the crease than any other batsmen and has a complete range of shots. i think he will be a big success in pakistan.

i get the feeling that tushar is not well liked on this board, would anyone care to tell me why?

When Tushar burst into the scene he was touted as a future test player. After all he has scored a first-class double hundred (if my memory serves right!). He put up a couple of pretty good ODI performances but somehow ran out of steam...perhaps he was under pressure to live up to the hype he had created as an explosive batsman. While controlled aggression is good in ODI especially, he overdid it in my opinion and that proved to be his undoing. He got out to pretty stupid shots often. Eventually he lost his confidence and form. He is trying to rebuild his career at the moment. He is definitely a talented batsman. He just needs to take it one step at a time. Once he manages to get a few consistent scores in ODIs, I think he should even be considered for tests. He is young and has time on his side.

There isn't much you can say about 80% of the batsmen in the team. For Tusher, he was dissapointing in the World Cup. I expected much from him ( I still do). I am looking forward to much better showing in pakistan.

Yes, he did score a double hundred while touring India with the A team.
