Shakib Al Hasan is young and talented enough to learn from this experience and emerge the better for it.
This is why it shouldn't be such a big thing that he lost captaincy. It's a learning curve, and all great players have to go through it.

Entire article is a joke. Unfortunately there is a player is consistant enough to be a captain, let alone wrry about leadership quality. Bangladesh Cricket board is following same path of Pakistan cricket. Sakib was the only captain in our history, who was a great performer in field, yet a good captain. What we need is, change board. I gurantee you that it will be way easier to find replacement of Lotus Lama than Sakib. What a joke!!

Interesting reading that raise more question than answers.

I will concentrate my comments on few specific sections:

>> Rumours of indiscipline and discontent have been circulating for the best part of the last twelve months.

One year is a long time. I would like to know, what exactly Coach, team manager, BCB did about that?

>> Shakib and Tamim are both fermenting discontent in the squad and are rumoured to have dined separately from the rest of the team on that same tour.

What was Coach Siddon, team Manager and BCB's view about that around that time? Was it part of the team rule? Did they approached Tamim and Sakib and warned them? Did they repeated the offense even when they were warned? If so, did BCB fined them for breaking team rule?

>> Both men are also rumoured to have insisted on business class plane tickets when travelling for specialist treatment abroad.

I remember Tamim did that. But cannot recall Shakib did that too. Can someone validate that please?

>> Such a conclusion, however, is misleading and ignores a pattern of poor behaviour by both the captain and his deputy. Shakib’s fall from grace is in fact the culmination of a series of acts by the Bangladesh skipper which could at best be described as naïve and at worst considered wilfully arrogant.

Again I would like to know if Coach, Team Manager, BCB, approached Sakib and tried to rectify this bad trend. If not, I would blame BCB more than Sakib for not able to guide a young and talented player. Its mainly their failure.

>Moreover, a former member of the coaching staff recently told of how during a crucial ODI, while the top order battled to set a score, their captain Shakib was napping in the dressing room for a significant portion of the Bangladesh innings.

Again I would like to know, when it happened? How the management tried to warn Sakib? What the Coach and the Team manager was doing, they were also sleeping? Why they didn't warned him? Why they have to wait so far as if they were building a case against Sakib. Shouldn't they guide the young captain before its too late?

>> Shakib also publicly accused the selectors of picking a squad without consulting him (an allegation denied by chief selector Akram Khan)

Personally I don't see anything wrong with that. And by default why should I believe Akram? Akram says one thing and Alok say another thing about Akram-Alok telephone conversation. Akram has more credibility issue than Sakib.

>> (Shakib )declined an invitation in November last year to captain the side on series-by-series basis, preferring instead a longer term appointment.

Personally I don't have any problem with that stand. I would have done the same.

These are just the first few questions I have while reading the article. I may add more later.

bhai, this was an article not an investigation report. Most of these questions have no authentic answer and its good that the writer didnt make assumptions, IMO.

Well, Whom are you asking these questions? To the writer or BCB?

An article sometimes answers questions and sometimes help us asking more questions. The writer may have some answers, but its also ok that the writer may not have the all the answers but help us asking the questions.

Ultimately BCB will have to open up and respond these questions, otherwise their motive will also be in question.

A superbly written article (esp. given the short time frame and the context). Also, I like Fazal uncle's breakdown and I am,too, curious about the answers. And yes, I do realize that the article is not meant to be an investigative report but...for instance...to take such 'floating' rumors if I may of Shakib also trying to get a Business Class or Tamim and Shakib dining out in their kissing cousin sessions to result in their axing seems draconian and nothing that couldn't be resolved by reprimanding them or strong fines. But, my hunch remains, they must have done something really flagrant to tick people off.

brilliantly written.

the writer takes the right side, that is neutral. he puts out the facts, doesnt stay naive, and rightfully remains optimistic that Shakib will come out of it on his own.

All good questions. I don't have any answers, I've just reported what I've heard/read. There's probably more we don't yet know about!

It would be nice if someone at the BCB attempted to respond. Perhaps on the BC forum?!

Actually, for Shakib's learning sake, someone in the board should have explained to him point by point that what exactly were expected out of him and where he failed to lead and thus got fired. The way this was handled, almost felt like revenge game and Shakib will never learn from it. I bet you that he is thinking the whole thing is 'politics' and he does not deserve to be sacked. Thus he will never change for better. This is the main problem with Bangla management in most aspects- there is no sale of a decision and professionally delivered. All there is - pesky emotion and our half educated over crowded media bubbling.

I have always said, Sakib was made captain ahead of his time. If he was given enough time, he could have been great. Too bad BCB ruined that by prematurely making him the captain and not letting him grow.

Of course he was arrogant and probably played favouritism. But what do you expect from such a young man with so much money, fame, power and no experience? He was forced in this role, and he could only learn through mistakes.

Right now we are going to ruin another youngster as there are no seniors in the team to be the interim leader until we have someone ripe. However, I wish, BCB made a policy to not make anyone under 28 a captain. As a nation, we are very immature, we seem to wise up only after 30 (not even)!

To me here, age was not the problem.

Its the way BCB communicated (or in this case lack of communication) and the absense of guidance from BCB is the issue. Plus what was Coach Siddon's role in letting this double standard exist under his leadership?

What feedback/warning Coach and BCB provided to the new captain? Did they tried to guide him and and he didn't listened? Or BCB and Coach were sleeping while thee things were happening?

Unless we know these, I am soory, I cannot blame Sakib's age as the reason of failure. So I don't see binging a 28 years captain, is not going to solve the issue, history is going to repeat itslef until we see further down the real causes of this failure.

Unfortunately, most of the BD players becomes physically unfit as a sportsman, by that age. We need a minimum marriageable age for the players. Army has it set at 26 years, for sports persons, that should be minimum 30 but GFs should be allowed. They play well and remain fit to impress GFs, and become AFtab after marriage ... Tummy shorbossho bodies...
