We're a passionate bunch and love or hate the way a player plays within the context of a match, NOT the player. There are times when our expectation either way matches their ability and application and there are times when it doesn't. There are times when they surprise with their success and then break our hearts but not being able to sustain it. I don't think there's any true fan who wishes a player to fail rather than succeed and make a positive contribution to the team.
Those who never fail to conflate the two are sublimating a disturbing pathology in this forum, and maybe in need of therapy and meds. IMHO, if anyone hates a player, any player, he's an immature idiot. We don't know these guys well enough to hate or love them.

Hence these days he gets glowing praises.
There is no conspiracy against Mahmudullah... respect from fans can be earned through substantive winning contributions. Had Mahmudullah won us a T-20, or the game against India in Asia cup or scored a fighting century which went to the last over... People would come out and shower him with praise too. Myself included.

There are too many Riyad innings for loosing causes...hard to affiliate him with victories...that's selfish.
Mushy's innings against India in Asia cup...remember that? Compare one of Riyad with that if you can...

Top class post there. It's not personal. I am worried about the upcoming t20 world cup, trust me no matter how much we say Twenty20 is not real cricket the fact is it is taking over the world and every team wants to do well and are preparing high class leagues of their own add to that fact that Bangladesh is organizing the event at 2014 this format is very important in the world of cricket today. In order to do well in this format you got to pick the best team, a team that can win matches, a team which has specialized batsmen in their individual positions, genuine allrounders, brilliant fielders at the deep who can run along with sharp catchers in the square regions, and good pacemen who know how to mix it up a lot.
I want our team to do well in the upcoming t20 world cup and the preparation is the key and also selecting the best team. The position that Riyad bats in needs someone to shift gear very very fast. He just hasn't shown that yet. He might have the ability but a lot of our batsmen did it's all about the commitment to the green-red jersey, the mentality that we have to win at all costs. What Riyad may be lacking is the mental aspect that's required from him in the position he bats. He can't be a grafter or waste balls and the time he decides to hit is already too late and the game is out of hands.
Saying that there is no one to replace him or no one is better than him IS JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH. And I am prepared to take a match winner or someone who cares atleast in place of a sure loser any day. If Riyad is to stay he has to take more responsibility of scoring runs lower down, closing the innings in a high and winning matches for Bangladesh. I just think he is not ready for that and have reservations he will ever be ready. If I could read Riyad's mind he will answer to "responsibility" as "FEAR".

Can Riyad play T20? Yea he can! He just won us the match.... His quick 6 and 4 turned the game, not to mention his good bowling. He would have had 2 wickets if it wasnt for a drop

Based on BPL as well, I think Riyad could be an option as the T20 #3.
I wouldn't mind seeing the following being tested in Europe with an eye to the world cup:
1/2 : Ashraful/Tamim/Anamul/Junaid (TBH, I'm not sure Tamim even belongs in the T20 squad. His rotation and SR are not suited for this format and it impacts the team. My pick at the moment would be Ash/Junaid)
3 : Riyad
4 : Shakib
5 : Nasir
6 : Mushy
7 : Ziaur (develop him as a finisher to hit on demand. He should be allowed to play without pressure and given the freedom to swing)
8 : Mash
9 : Razzak (under no circumstances do you let him bat higher than this)
10 : Sunny
11 : Abul/Shafiul/Rubel/Nazmul (whoever the best available pacer is)

Mullah well played...
He always plays well without pressure or when situation is under control. You can see his nerves on his facial expression in any pressure situation. ....
He should be used with the ball, more often.

I think the critics and fans of Riyad have to agree that he is turning a corner in his batting. He's batting with a lot more of a positive intent which is great to see. He looks like such a class batsman when he goes hard rather then going in to a shell. Also his bowling has been really good. Let's hope he keeps it up. Proud of Riyad for his contributions.

just get the feeling that Sakibs absence is doing good to Ryad, he is now the only recognized AR.
he is getting to bowl more overs and coming to bat and take BD home, these jobs were regularly done by Sak.
