^^^ rumours are Biman to restart DAC-MAN-JFK route after February 2012. I hope this is true as this will open up LHR-DAC direct flight. At the moment Biiman is flying LHR-MAN-DAC using 777-300. Only reason they are doing it so that MAN is fully operational by the time JFK-MAN-DAC restarts. As you already know they did mess about a lot on that route last time. US aviation won't give them another chance if they fail this time.

So unfortunately for you BDnyer you will have to travel with sad northerner not with happy Londoner like us. j/k

So, no nonstop between DAC and JFK.

BTW, we used to call a girl classmate of ours manchester (behind her). You can guess why. Juvenile? Yes. Cruel? Yes. But at least not to her face.

BTW, does Manchester airport have a layout similar to LHR? In LHR, you have to walk about a mile before arriving at your connecting flights! I wonder who is responsible for this "design."

Never boarded from MAN so can't tell. Terminal 3 of LHR was the worse for Biman. They normally used park at the very last gate. But for the last 2 years Biman has been moved to Terminal 4 which is much better. Manchester is not big like LHR. Seen it from outside.

i don't think pax load is enough for non-stop. maybe with a smaller aircraft such as 787 or a 777-200LR it would be more feasible. in fact thats exactly what routes those mid sized a/c are designed for. PIA uses 77L from JFK to Lahore, and AI uses the same a/c from JFK to Delhi.

Never have I travelled in an airlines whose only priority in life is to fudge people over...

My gf was traveling from Dhaka to Seoul on a work related trip. She had to catch a connecting flight from Kathmundu. Of course Biman was late leaving from Zia and she missed her which left Kathmundu while she was still stuck in Dhaka.

She approached a Biman officer for help. The guy told her to follow him. Of course she assumed that she would probably get assistance to get a new flight out of Kathmundu the same day, or tomorrow the very least. Instead, the Biman officer took her to the immigrations where he tried to convince the people there to cancel her visa, saying she can no longer go to Seoul!

We were dumbstruck, absolutely astonished.

Not a single taka of our hard earned money to will go to support this thuggery in the guise of a business. I am trying to convince everyone who listens to me to boycott Biman. Not that Biman would give a rat's *** of course.

Video made by my mama! Understandably, he was worried if he'll make it to Nepal on this flight...thankfully, he returned safely!

Your videos indeed relieved me! And agree with you, I'm a victim of that skepticism too.

I'll tell my mama to not get worried about it. This is the first time I'm seeing this...and I've traveled quite a bit in my lifetime!

So I went to the Bangladesh consulate in NYC the other day...noticed teh floor above is home to Biman's office...went up there, door was locked so I rang the bell not expecting anyone there. Finally a man comes to the door. Says Biman is "making progress" on getting their JFK flights back. Interesting to note that Biman still has a staffed office in NYC.

So sorry to hear that story man.
This is an example of -
- Giving power to people who cant probably write a complete sentence in Bangla/English.
- Unqualified people hired by even more unqualified interviewers.

I have seen a sort of related story once i was traveling to Saudi. A White guy with his family was literally pleading to an airport official, calling them Sir, Sir, Sir for whatever reason- and the airport official was trying to ignore him, acting as if he owns the airport.

Just sad. There is something wrong in us Bangladeshis.

Samir - your gf's story is really alarming. What on earth was that guy thinking?

I usually get too ticked off if things are not done right. If I was on her shoes, I would have made sure that the guy got sacked from his job. I would go that extra mile (or that extra thousand miles).

Rented Boeing dodges Biman

Leaves 220 passengers stranded in Muscat

Staff Correspondent

The owner of an aircraft took back the plane from leaseholder Biman without notice stranding 220 passengers in Muscat since Wednesday.

Biman and plane owner Air Atlanta Icelandic were having a row over the lease of the plane.

Biman officials said the Boeing 747 had left for Muscat, Oman, with 500 passengers from Shahjalal International Airport Wednesday morning.

It was supposed to carry home 220 passengers on its return flight to Dhaka but it left Muscat without notifying Biman. The passengers are now expected to be in Dhaka today.

According to Biman officials, all passengers were waiting at Muscat Airport completing formalities to board the plane Wednesday night.

But the crew went for refuelling and did not return to the gate.

"After refuelling it did not come to the boarding bridge. Later, we came to know that the aircraft landed at Sana'a International Airport, the capital of Yemen," said a Biman official.

If it weren't for the inconvenience to the passengers it would be funny. Not the first time a plane has been repossessed.

There's a whole show on it. Though mostly private planes not for a state owned airline though.

Only idiots fly with Biman.

I know it takes only 6 hours and its non stop but I would rather spend 14 hrs. incl transit and fly with Etihad and if Etihad seats are expensive / not available, then fly with Emirates. Better flight, better aircrafts, better entertainment, better food, wayy better air hostesses .. why should anyone fly with Biman ?

Biman posted record losses this year! Over 5 billion taka! And another new 777 is due at the end of this year. Wonder how they can keep getting new planes with nothing but loss making business.
