I don't know why people hate Riyad so much in BC. His last 4 test innings 32, 62, 29, 72* that's not bad for a #8 batsman specially when you compare this to few of our top order batsmen. He is a good and reliable test batsman. But he have to do even better as with the inclusion of Gazi we don't need his off spin bowling as much nowadays. If he doesn't do well consistently as a batsman then someone like Mominul will replace him soon. So just wishing him good luck.
It's good to see how competition for a position is bringing the best out of some of our players

He is a "Test Material" . Has good technique and tolerance . Should bat at 3 in test.

This is why nothing tests a cricketer's skill, temperament and character more than tests. You pretty much start from square one each day and cannot succeed without renewed focus. The longer the break, the more difficult it gets to do just that. It's not easy to sustain your focus from session to session in a single day either, but to carry your form into the next day after a good night's sleep is simply too difficult for most. Gotta love test cricket to truly appreciate the subtle nuances that define cricket itself.

How long will he play down at the tail? Just goddamn stupid. He should clearly play at 3 or 4, get rid of Nayeem.

For some reason I yet don't see the match winner in Riyad. He's very very good for playing at a losing cause and getting us to positions where its not an embarrassing to lose but at the end of the day a loss is a loss.
He definitely needs to bat up the order and play the anchor role [and by anchor role I don't mean someone batting around at a SR of 65, which is what I feel Riyad will be doing if sent to bat at the top]. And he also definitely isn't someone who can hit big shots at will. For someone batting so low down the order his SR should be in high 90s and even cross 100. Even in the world cup game against England while he hung around and thats appreciated it was Shafiul who was providing the punching blows. With the emergence of better players, unless Riyad takes his game to the next level, I don't see him cementing his position in the ODI team.
Never the less, congrats for two consecutive 50s albeit in losing causes.

Always good for losing cause....he should bat up the order, since he only knows one kind of batting. Anyway, it was valuable to save ijjat today. But had he come up the order. We wouldn't have the collapse. Guess, This position isn't for him in ODIs...

You can't know whether he'd perform or not unless you give him an extended run at #3. Unfair to say that "Always good for losing cause" since he comes so bloody down the order - what else would you expect?

Expect to see the intent, that you would see in any other team from a player at that stage.....the Intent...

Expect intent. Clearly he is not the right player for that spot. We can all say things like guiding the tail and stuff but if it doesn't win you matches then chuck it. Yes he needs to bat higher up the order and in fact has his highest ODI score when he came to bat number 4 against Aussies [which was yet another 50+ in a losing cause ].

Bat him at number 6. promotion should be one step at a time not a sudden jump from #7 to #3....
Once he succeeds there, then we can move him to number 5 and so on until he feels confident that he can bat as per team demand.

He played some really gorgeous shots today against some quality bowling under testing conditions. He NEEDS to bat up the order. I want to see him coming out of the shadows and help us win games. The face saving business at number 7 has gone on for far too long.

always good to have a reliable batsman low down the order.
I don't see much need to move him up, he is well here, otherwise the top order were not so bad this series.
We just need contribution from Nasir & Momin.

I'm fine with Mahmudullah batting at #7 in Tests but he's got bat up the order for ODI's. Batting at #3/4 shouldn't be a hard ask in ODI's and since he needs time in the middle before gets going, it's better he bats there.

I wouldn't put him at 3. I'd put him ahead of Nasir and Momin.

So Mushy at #3 and Riyad at #4? That's a good idea and I think somebody in another thread mentioned that. They've been the most consistent this series so that would be a good idea.
