Or the barbarities committed against Kurds? Well at least we now know of one landing spot for those who'd want to bolt. You know I've been thinking, if all these demonstrations cause the senior Jamaat leaders and rajakars to get the hell out of dodge, that wouldn't upset me at all. In fact I might be willing to give them one extra bag of peanut or pretzel during their flight out of BD.
Funny, I'd have expected such a reaction from Saudi Arabia, not from the most progressive/westernized of all Muslim-majority countries.

Zunaid - Thanks for clarifying. It is a bona fide petition. The terms and FAQ are easily seen by a few clicks - that is not much to ask for of a revolutionary. Thanks!
PS: Naimul Bhai - to see that it works see the responses for yourself - all fruits of a petition having been heard. https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/responses
PPS: I already see that people are posting against that post on cyberjudhdho - Omi was quoted - but he did not post it. Here is a blog trying to validate: http://www.somewhereinblog.net/blog/...31006/29771769
You may want to alert Omi on that.

Highly surprised to see this from the Turks. I guess Daniel Pipes is correct in his analysis that Turkey under the AKP is becoming increasingly "Islamist". This is probably also reflective of Turkey's ambitions to be the leader of the Muslim world given their relative prosperity and strength.

These things don't require a huge amount of funding or planning do they? Bring your own beer, chanachur, and lounge chair, right? If they have loudspeakers and maybe a portable big screen I'm sure that only costs maybe 10 grand which either some businessman or the BAL party can easily cough up. Oh and some Sharpie markers and posterboards from Staples.

This correspondent met her at the school. She said she had had Tk 2,300 in her earthen pot. She had also taken Tk 700 from her mother for making pithas for Shahbagh protesters.

A small intitiative or contribution can be large enough to push forward the demonstration calling for death penalty for war criminals. Such an encouraging effort was made yesterday by villagers of Enayetpur of Sirajganj, 200 km north of the capital.

I just was on a conference call with Omi Rahman Pial with my friend from Dhaka - Ranju who has been at Shahbagh every day; Pial Bhai said that he had withdrawn that statement. I also called the cyberjudho and they said that they would look into it as well. They say that they emailed the Whitehouse.gov contact email(?) - and awaiting a reply - and I don't think that's gonna happen. Need 100,000 sigs to get a response.
That tipai bridge thing may have been a scam - and once bitten - so I can understand. But this one is for real.

I was just speculating. It seems like something a mass protest would have.

Zsayeed, that pitha story is touching. My dad tells me that the hospitals and offices nearby are letting use of the bathrooms for the crowds but surely you are having to get all these PA systems. I saw a decent setup of mics and what not. Some good logistical aspects there. Likewise that table with laptops where there is power supply at least (I'm guessing each volunteer is using his own 3g wifi hotspot or bunch of them sharing). Is everyone packing lunches or paying out of pocket for their meals?
I get that my questions can seem like I'm implying some secret force is funding this. Clearly this is bigger than any party. However there is organization and funding of some type going on and if it's all crowdsourced then there are lessons to be learned here that can be applied to the corporate world.

RazabQ Bhai - Bangladeshey electricity pawa kothin naki? Especially near the police control room, shishu park and jadughor - and then charukola is right here. Koto hobey 100 yds to run some wires? My friend goes to TSC to get his food - as he is a DU grad. Somewhere else I was also reading that the committee is type of ad-hoc so far with the online activists who started it have some sort of organizational role. To get Mics is also not a big thing - people know people and know people - you know how things are and it is still the same. You can get a lot done with little - as far as needs of this group are concerned. My friend has a WiMAX device that he uses at the site. Plus to get that stream going - Wimax is available and good speeds.

He was the director of the famous Channel 4 documentary on War Criminals that outed the many Rajakars living in the UK. Bergman. He is also married to a friend. I've never met him though.
He does make legitimate points about the ICT, IMO.

i was thinking of a possible demand:
Anybody convicted of war crime trial can never run for elections or any other public office. May be their citizenships can be taken away as well so that they can never travel on Bangladesh passport.
