He got one fifty. He missed out on last year. Needed the ball to go for a 6 to get there but it bounced just inside the boundary. He was 48 or 49 not out.

BANGLADESH IN SRI LANKA 2013
'Test cricket is the ultimate goal for me': Anamul Haque
Galle, Wednesday, 06 March 2013
TEAM UPDATE: Bangladesh batsman Anamul Haque talks about his first full tour overseas with the National Team-
Experience of Sri Lanka
"I was here for a Under 19 tour and made a couple of fifties. From what little I have played here I can tell you that the pitches are generally sporting. The practice wickets are also very good. Although it is a bit hot and humid but I am enjoying my time here.
Ambition
"I have played ODIs and T20s for Bangladesh but Test cricket has always been my main ambition. If I get the chance then it will be the proudest moment of my cricket career.
Preparation
I thought the practice match against Sri Lanka Emerging Squad was very good preparation. I think I missed out. It was an excellent track to bat on. I tried to make up for that with a long session in the nets during optional practice today. I have worked on a few things and I am feeling confident.
Team mates
Muminul (Haque), Raju (Abul Hasan) were Under 19 team mates and we have also played for the Academy together along with Shohag Gazi. The seniors, the coaches and team management have been very cooperative and welcoming. It has helped me to relax.

He won't last long in Test cricket unless he improves his footwork. In fact I was surprised that the pacers didn't get him early - with all the bags of cement on his feet, all it should take is to pitch one up on or around off, move it away a tiny bit, make him play at it and first slip will have his hands full. I thought the pacers wasted too many deliveries bowling slightly shorter and wider than necessary.
His dismissal was pathetic - Mendis looped it and he fell for the bait. Stood his ground and slashed at it when he could have planted his front foot out and turned it into a full toss if nothing else. Ash got a similar delivery that went for four. For someone who has played 52 FC innings, this sorta stuff is unacceptable. Reminded me of the Mehrab Sr/Al Shahriar era.

Well thats what we thought after the first Windies match. His footwork is still not good but he wasn't slashing at everything outside off like he was against Sammy and Rampaul. I dont think he should open but bat at 3 or 4 which are his natural positions. He'll face less pace and less lateral movement there.

Gotta disagree with ATMR in some aspects. This is his first test. We need to give him a few tests more (at least the current series) to judge him. He tried to stay in the wicket and I must appreciate his temperament.
The concern about his footwork is valid. We are a team which doesn't have an official batting coach for more than 6 months. Isn't it interesting?

Disappointed, but hope he does well in the second innings. Lapse in concentration when he looked comfortable.

The problem is for an international opener, his footwork is horrendous. He is no Sehwag (he could be), and you expect better from someone who has made it all the way to the Test XI. International batsmen do need help and a batting coach can provide that help, but you expect that an international player would at least have some of the basics worked out before entering the national team. Footwork wise, this guy is at best Dickens 2.0. Anyways, I expect him to get better with time and/or develop hand-eye coordination to overcome what he lacks in footwork.

phootwork is overrated, but I'm worried as he missed out in WU as well as this 1st innings.
But I have faith on him

Have faith in him, needs to work real hard tough hope he nd the coaching staff be lazy on this..another solution could be to put him at 3/4 but that leaves us hunting for another opener..

Brain farts, Gap between bat and pad, first intention should be to move forward and being secure around that 4th stump line. Work on these Bijoy!

ATMR are you still holding a grudge against him for that "selfish" century he scored in the ODI against WI?
This was his debut Test and he looked nervous and out of touch/form. But I was still impressed that he managed to last 68 balls when he was clearly finding it difficult, this says a lot about his temperament. He did part of his job as an opener to see off the new ball for which Ashraful and Mominul are now reaping the rewards.
I think if Anamul managed to play out a few more balls he would have eventually got his touch back into good rhythm and would have scored runs more fluently.
His footwork needs to improve and I'm sure he will do so with time and experience. I think he has earned the right to be given a run of innings to settle in and show what he is capable of producing.

TBH I was expecting this is to happen for Anamul, when some opener has footwork issue. Even I thought he would get out before Jahurul today. But he still deserves to be with the sqaud of XI til Tamim-SN comes back. Let see how long team management keeps this dissapintingly shaky opening duo here.

it's anamul's first test innings, i reckon it's no drama's he didn't score being that it's his first and nerves etc. but give him a decent run and i think he'll come good, but if he doesn't get that good run then we won't know, and it's not like anyone else aside from tamim has been successful as opener in tests so no reason not to stick with him for a few series.
