When UDRS is inevitable

Rashad Banna

The time may finally be ripe when Bangladesh pushes its case for the universal use of the Umpire’s Decision Review System in light of their recent downturns on their recent tour of Sri Lanka and the ongoing tour in Zimbabwe.
Bangladesh were undeservedly on the receiving end of some dubious and controversial umpiring decisions which might have been overturned had the UDRS been in place.
While the issue was discussed several times in the ICC meetings, they could not come to any decision largely because of India’s opposition. Considering the financial might of the Board of Control for Cricket in India and the major say they have in all cricketing affairs, the other cricketing countries resisted their temptation to put the issue on vote.

This time I am going to bump this thread.

I am tired of biased umpiring against us over and over. I will track the bad calls in this TEST.

Fahim, Wrong decisions do lose matches. A perfect example is Multan Test.
In the First Test several decisons went against us.
Its like getting penalty in soccer due to referees's wrong call.

Imagine getting a C in a class where you deserved an A. If you dont complain, I dont know what to tell you.

Yeah...bout to say. Lets see if holds up and is consistent. I'd hate to see any wrong decisions against either side.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few decisions go in our favor just to even things out a bit

91.5

Meth to Ziaur Rahman, OUT, huge inswinger now, first time he's bowled it this morning, Ziaur walking out and failing to work it to leg, hit in front of middle, but there was a lot of angle on this, umpire Gould upholding the long appeal eventually

Ziaur Rahman lbw b Meth 14 (38b 2x4 0x6) SR: 36.84

That looked pretty plumb...Cremer was denied a plumb one of Robiul as well. Evens things up a bit although reprieving a #11 not the quite the same as reprieving Taylor on 105.

And Shakib's LBW appeal against Chigumbura was not upheld:

"73.6
Shakib Al Hasan to Chigumbura, no run, appeal for leg before, playing for turn to one sliding in, umpire Gould shakes his head, possibly going down, may have been clipping leg, very close "

No, it is BCB's fault for not pressurizing for the review.

Besides, in test cricket, this part of the game. Count your blessings that both umpires are not from Zim. Those were the days.

The standard of umpiring has been way way low in this test match. Both the teams are suffering due to the poor umpiring.

3.4 that is a snorter, and Tamim's given by umpire Hill, he's stunned and walks off slowly shaking his head, Shingi slanted it across and it flew from a good length, so much that the keeper had to leap to take it, Tamim was pushing forward, and the sound, trucks notwithstanding, has to be bat hitting pad, replays don't suggest any edge 7/1

6.4 oh dear, another one, now Ashraful is not convinced, he cannot believe it as umpire Gould's finger goes up, and walks back with several glances back, Ashraful is right to be aggrieved, this low full toss was swinging in, and was headed easily down the leg side 18/3

That is why Cricket and ICC will never be a major league sport. Only ten freaking countries play in the highest league ( so to speak ), and they can't come up with a standard video replay all across the board. I rarely bitch about it here, but after watching the replays, I had too. Complete BS the Ash out. It is elementary for the ump to know where the ball pitches. knicks for caught behinds can be deceiving at times, but no reason to miss LBW like that. Incompetent umpires should pay match penalties..

agree that, specially after every game umpires should see what mistakes they have made and should be fined for those

They use technologies and use up minutes to make sure whether it is 4 or six or runs saved but not for wickets.
Though still don't know why that drs need so much money if we can conclude with the tv replays.
In the process this game is losing its interest.
