Trouble Will Find Me by The National

One of my favorite bands bar none. Great vocals, songwriting and composition. The best new and original music out there alongside Calexico, The Dave Matthews Band, North Mississippi Allstars, Doyle Bramhall II, The Roots and Erykah Badu. Here's a song from the album.

"Don't Swallow The Cap"

Cold light breaks behind the houses
I don't see what's strange about this.
Tiny bubbles hang above me.
It's a sign that someone loves me.
I can hardly stand upright
Hit my head up on the light
I have faith but don't believe you
This love ain't enough to leave you.

Everything I love is on the table.
Everything I love is out to sea.

I have only two emotions,
Careful fear and dead devotion.
I can't get the balance right.
Throw my marbles in the fight.
I see all the ones I wept for
All the things I had it in for
I won't cry until I hear
Cause I was not supposed to be here.

Everything I love is on the table.
Everything I love is out to sea.
I'm not alone,
I'll never be.
Into the bone,
I'll never grieve.

I'm tired, I'm freezing, I'm dumb
When it gets so late I forget everyone.
I need somewhere to stay.
Don't think anybody I know is awake.
Calm down, it's alright,
Keep my arms the rest of the night.
When they ask what do I see,
I see a bright white beautiful heaven hangin' over me.

I'm not alone,
I'll never be.
Into the bone,
I'll never grieve.
And if you want, (dead seriously)
To see me cry. (don't swallow the cap)
Play "Let It Be" (pat yourself on the back)
Or "Nevermind". (dead seriously)

There's a time to leave, there's a time to think about
What I wanna say to the girls at the door.
I need somewhere to be
But I can't get around the river in front of me.
Come down, it's alright,
Lead my arms the rest of the night.
When they ask what do I see,
I see a bright white beautiful heaven hangin' over me.

I'm not alone, (dead seriously)
I'll never be. (don't swallow the cap)
Into the bone, (pat yourself on the back)
I'll never grieve (dead seriously)
And if you want, (dead seriously)
To see me cry, (don't swallow the cap)
Play "Let It Be" (pat yourself on the back)
Or "Nevermind". (dead seriously)

You know whats super catchy?

That country-hip hop remix of "Cruise" with Florida Georgia Line and Nelly. A pretty sick concept!

Think you're talking about the song Muqabla from the 90s. The guy in the video is Prabhu Deva, who was/is a huge figure in the south Indian film industry, but isn't a Bollywood actor per se. He's a great dancer though, and has choreographed many Bollywood movies. One of my favourite songs too

sum_1 dada, do you listen to Bangladeshi music? and also how popular is Bangladeshi music in west bengal? I know Miles was popular there back in the days and then Bangla (the band) had some fame too. In our side, very few contemporary kolkata artists are known. People still mostly listen to hemanta, manna dey, srikanto, nachiketa, and other rabindrosangeet singers.

Back in my school days, bands like Miles and LRB were hugely popular among students, along with others like James, Nemesis etc. I used to listen to band music religiously back then, and I still believe they are largely popular among the student fraternity, along with the local bands.

Now I've moved away form the band music as the part of the ageing process . One of my favourite contemporary Bangladeshi singers is Rezwana Chowdhury, but I am not familiar with other singers though.

I am also not familiar with any new talented singers from my side and generally listen to Srikanto Acharya, Indranil Sen, Sraboni Sen, Indrani Sen, Debabrata Bhattacharya, Lopamudra etc. Regarding the bands, I used to listen to Bhumi and Chandrabindu. I'd recommend this list to you. Not to forget Mohiner Ghoraguli and Poroshpathor.

If you ask any person under 35 in WB about their top 5 songs from their school/college days, more than 90% will have Phiriye Dao and Shei Tumi in their list, including me.

Honestly the quality of band music has went down in our side too. Late 80s to 90s in my opinion were the golden age. We had LRB, Miles and then also Warfaze, Feelings (James), Feedback, Nova, Ark etc. Then came Aurthohin, Artcell, Black, Shironamhin etc. who were able to keep it up. I would recommend you listen to them though the genre changed to alternative rock.

Nowadays it has either gone metal or pop. One group will have a hit song and then disappear. None can sustain the passion and cult following of LRB, Warfaze, or even Artcell. Fuad is decent but Habib and other copycats makes what I call -- gaye holud songs.

As you said, who can forget firiye dao or shei tumi. Also "shey tara bhora rate"..still gives me goosebumps. I have heard Mohiner Ganguli and liked them. Haven't heard much of Chondrobindu but memorized all songs by Nachiketa

Few oldish recent bangla songs I would recommend are from top of my head
Artcell - Dukkho Bilash
Artcell - Ei bristi bheja raate
Artcell - Amar poth chola
Ornob - Shey je boshe ache eka eka
Black - Amar Prithbi

All can be found on YouTube
