No complains today with his intentions, he gave it his all but let's be honest he ain't a slogger in any stretch of imagination, so this was a bit too much to ask from him. Nonetheless I am happy with his current approach and hopefully he'll improve his hitting abilities a bit more to take us over the line.

yes his innings wasn't anything to brag about but he tried, that was a good sign

Good knock but perhaps he needs to bat up the order and lay the foundation rather than batting at the death. His strike rate is an issue

3 sixes in his innings, without that its 16 of 22, he has gap finding issues

He needs to get more self-confident and look at his game and agree with that. I have no doubt about his passion and desire. That is evident. But it's the lack of faith in himself that has led to the tag. You keep mentioning stats, and I keep giving you examples that go beyond stat. I'll recap and elaborate:

1) Demoted himself from the Chittagong Kings because he felt he couldn't hack it. You could argue that was a courageous, honest decision but I would say that more limited batters than him have cut it on 20/20 with more confidence. E.g. Naeem - Naeem who I rag on, has none of Riyad's silkiness but he's somehow getting it done because of his huge belief in himself. Look at some of the 100s he has scored on tour (A-team tour of Ireland where everyone was peeing in their pants from the green tops, or the recent tour of UK.

2) Consistently exposes his other partner to do the hitting. On his debut match in 2007 against Lanka, he came in when TiK was there and we were chasing 196. On all but the last of his partnerships, he was 2ndary scorer. His other partnerships were with the bowlers! In WC against England, Shafiul hit the big shots (against Bresnan) that got us close to home. Take a look at the list of all his partnerships when chasing:

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...;view=fow_list

I took a random at 10 matches and in 9 of them he was the 2ndary scorer in partnerships involving bowlers!

3) Technical challenges in hitting full-tosses and in pulling the ball. After 6 years, the same remains whereas all our batters (Mominul of late or Shak and TiK from Siddons days) openly admit on which areas they have worked on and which are evident in the evolution of their batting.

There is a reason the expression "There are lies, damned lies and then statistics" exists. Stats can be wonderful indicators but YOU HAVE to take it in context. Take out the N/O factor and divide his total run scored by total innings and the ave drops from 33 to 22. His career strike rate while chasing is 68% (the same as when batting 1st). In comparison Nasir's is 72% (70% when batting 1st).

I am a fan yes but I never rail against a player unless there is some firm cricketing reasons behind it, colorful language notwithstanding.
Agree 100%.

1. Denying to lead chittagong kings in BPL
2. Denying to bat up the order recently to accomodate him in the playing XI

If you deny to lead a team to focus on your batting then how can you lead a national team in the absence of the Captain? And I don't know how BCB makes him the VC.

It's time to get this sorted. Competition is growing in the team and I don't think Riyad will be able to hold this situation too long. May be another 5-6 months.

He is too soft. Period.

He needs to give up match winning innings or people will keep complaining about him.

I think Zia and Mominul are misfits in the side

Why was zia opening the batting again? How can you call yourself a t20 specialist if you get bowled out trying to play a Yorker from a medium pacer

He was always a decent player. It's a matter of courage and batting up the order. that's all.

Sadi you misunderstood me a bit. Playing big innings in test cricket is the main issue. Riyad is not a hugely talented batsman who have ability to play big innings with playing good deliveries. He need to decrease number of risky shots to play big innings. Naeem has become successfull in test cricket by decreasing shot playing. Riyad will have to follow the same path to play big innings or he will have to be more perfect with his shots. Second option is tougher than the 1st.

Are you freaking kidding me? Hey Mr. Movember, how about you quit churning up this type of nonsense and start asking questions that really matter? Like when will Riyad man up, take some responsibility and bat up the order instead of hiding behind the #11's success?

And what's this load of nonsense about sacrifices? Seriously, if this is how low our standards are for what passes as a "sacrifice", then no wonder we're still in the third world with no hope of moving out. You pick a career, get a job, commit to it and do whatever you can to get it done. In return, you get paid. No, these are not "sacrifices". This is reality, this is how the world works. You're getting paid to do your job, no one is forcing you to do it. If our jubo shomaj feels missing out on ma er haater gorur mangsho one day is a sacrifice, then this jubo shomaj needs their sorry buttocks whipped.

Btw, keu murgi shomorthon kore, keu goru shomorthon kore, lol. We all know who the biggest goru supporter in the team is.

Happy birthday riyadh, now come on and make this test match one to remember; perhaps a century (or more) would be the perfect gift. But just remember that you will have to do the work by yourself to achieve that. All the best!!!!

It's time for Riyad to think about taking up modeling career perhaps. BD needs some super models badly. He could do a great job as a super model looking pretty and smiling all the time.
