Default Questions for Allister de Winter

Our new coach will be going to Bangladesh soon. He will be replacing the big shoes of Richard Mciness as the U-19 coach. Although it is a daunting task I am sure he has the right attitude and heart.

I have already exchanged emails and have learnt of his reactions , following the game in England. On friday I will talk to him over the phone- an extended session where i will pose some structured questions, prior to his arrival in Bangladesh.

Please let me know what are, if any, questions that you may like to be answered. Bear in mind that he has not seen the team yet, so keep the questions "answerable".
Thanks, any help would be appreciated folks.

Hopefully, we would like to see him in this forum soon, but i think now he has a lot of loose ends to tie before his apppointment starts. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Default My Question

Hi Oracle,
I've a question in mind. At this moment BD's nurturing its future talents in the form of High Performance unit (some dubbed this as the "farm house"). This's OK for having extensive training all year round, but the players are separated at a very early stage. They aren't integrated into competitive 1st class crikcte, which's also very important. That's why we're seeing so many raw young players are jumping into the big games without having much exposure at 1st class level. What should the new coache's view regarding this integration....(1) will the unit tour separately? (2) will they perform regularly in the 1st class matches? (3) will they merge into the main stream of cricket first and long i.e. 1st class, A tour before being pushed straight to test cricket, so that we have a uniform selection strategy i.e. selecting players on consistent performance in the 1st class circuit?

Thank you.

Will be follow the method undertaken by McInnes or he will be hoping to put up a new way of doing things. Of course each and every person has their own way of doing things but i'm talking more about radical changes rather than minor ones.

Hi Oracle,

Could you please find out, what new measures will he put? What experience he has got from his own background that will help BD cricket for the future, and has he any plans for younger u-19 players,, you know like, what of his own systems will he introduce?

Here is a rough draft of the questions i will send before i call him. I hope i have included all your questions. We will eventually have to prune the questions and leave out some. I would like to keep it to 6 questions max!

1)First things first! I understand that you have been following the tigers in England, so what is your reaction and observation about the recent matches in England?

2)The change from handling Western Australia to U-19 Bangladesh is quite a leap, what problems, challenges do you forsee and what are your thoughts about handling them?

3)What was it about the Bangladesh job that piqued your interest? How did you come to know about the Bangladesh Under 19 coaching assignment?

4)You'll be following in the footsteps of Richard Mciness. Any trepidation coming into a situation where expectations on all sides might be a bit high?

5)What will you bring from your experiences at Western Australia? And I understand that you were a specialist coach for fast bowlers. Anything that you would like to see incorporated in Bangladesh?

6)How far can a coach go in trying to improve a player?

7)There are a lot of technological aids for coaches nowadays. And also cricket coaching has progressed towards technology and science. What are your intuitive feelings about this?

8)In terms of facilities and infrastructure for cricket, letís face it, you are moving from a developed setup to a developing infrastructure. Do you have any personal concerns about this?

9)In terms of coaching, who do you see as a role model? Why?

10)As Bangladesh is nurturing future talents in the form of the High Performance unit, we have seen how players have been inducted into the test team with few or no experience in first class cricket. This has resulted in selection problems as the inadequate first class structure is unable to gauge the suitability of players for test roles. What are your thoughts, vision and plans about selection and the role of the HPU?

Looks good so far. However, basic interview format onujayi, there needs to be some background questions first. e.g.

How did you get into coaching? Tell us a little bit about yourself, etc.

How did you hear about this (BD U-19) opp? What attracted you to it? Any reservations?

How is your family coping to BD? Culture shock etc?

How can fans help the team and perhaps you?

This are called low hanging fruits soften him uf with these first perhaps?
