I feel so bad for them. We used to complain 5-10 years back about less cricket. These guys don't get anything! No money, no bilaterals, no televised matches.

BCB should stand up with these guys... we trash talk BCCI, ECB and then we turn the same corner as them. Cmon BCB, get these associates some games!

I agree. Instead of 2-3 series against Zimbabwe each year, we should aim to play some games against associate nations. Especially in countries like Ireland and Scotland where it would be beneficial for us(the conditions and all)

Richardson? The one from SA? He is the biggest obstacle for associates to get anything. Heck he is even against us having a test status.

None of the members want a penny to be lost to Associate teams. I predict cricket will more like baseball in coming decades if this funding model is not fixed.

Ah, good video to dig up... How is cricket going to improve in these countries without them participating in world events or even bilateral tours to test nations, ICC really needs a set plan for them and maybe we should help too! We were in the same position and we shouldn't forget that, it's time to give back. Would love for Netherland, Scotland, Namibia, Dutch, Irish to come and play us or we visit them once a year to play some T20s and ODIs. I hope ICC is listening.

Extremely heart breaking to see the Associate Captains' faces during the press conference (Borren, Momsen and Porterfield). It clearly shows the signs of utter defeat after putting heart and soul into this game. I personally could'nt watch it for long because I felt that bad.

The Intl. Circus Council really needs to fix this sh*t.

Why don't these associates just play with the A or B teams of Test playing nations? Remember Bangladesh used to play in NZ, RSA? England, West Indies, Pakistan, India all these countries used to send their A teams to Bangladesh. I remember Bangladesh winning an ODI series vs West Indies A team which featured the likes of Ian Bishop. Surely playing against the A or B teams of test playing nations are bound to help these associate teams grow, right?

I got very upset after watching these videos and tweets. Very valid points being made by Peter Borren, Porterfield and Mommsen. Currently, the "Big Three" has huge influence over ICC's decisions as they are the biggest cricket boards bringing in most of ICC's revenue.

Compare this to FIFA- where all members are treated equally. All members get the equal number of votes in elections. Germany (currently ranked #1) doesn't get a bigger say in international football, just because they bring in about 10,000 times more revenue than 179th ranked Bangladesh. There are no "full members" and "associate members" in football. Every member is treated equally. And every member must play Qualifiers for the rights to play in any international tournaments (except for the host nation).

In the late 90s, ICC were more open about globalisation of the sport, giving emerging countries like Bangladesh test status. But now they have had a change in their attitude dealing with "associate members". The Big 3 have strongly opposed globalisation of the sport, especially BCCI, who have continuously opposed plans like introducing cricket in the Olympics to promote globalisation of cricket, although CA and ECB had changed their position on this over time.

ICC spending has continuously been cut for associate members. More spending has been allocated to the Big 3 cricket boards (who BTW had a crap tonne of money already). ICC seem more interested in short term profit rather than growing the sport. Teams like Ireland, Scotland, Netherlands, Afghanistan, Namibia and even Nepal could overtake teams like Pakistan and England in 10 years time if they were proper support and funding. And this might be ICC's downfall one day, cricket might go completely extinct.

For the poor structure of ICC favouring some teams over others, I would never have watched cricket if Bangladesh wasn't so outlandishly bad in all other international sports.

This is the time to do it,just before the main stagers come in,getting maximum coverage before the Cup starts, and if Cricinfo covering it cudos to them.
I don't like the BCCI,ECB or even CA very much.
Even tho the CA does a good job at administering the game in oz,nmulti culturally the game has developed exponentially. And the standard is still good, unlike S Africas' comp which is going down the drain. If you are pissed so many S African players play for Associate sides, its going to get even worse.

The sad reality is, our board (BCB) has no interest whatsoever in helping out these associate nations. Which is rather ironic, because there was a time when Bangladesh was in the exact same spot that Ireland, Afghanistan is in today, looked down upon by the top 9- and most players who played in that Bangladesh team are currently holding senior management roles at BCB.

Sad to see how we treat our fellow countrymen. ECB and the rest of the big 3 should be ashamed

if they change it the'll make it a 12 team tournament not 16. they are not going back to the risk of losing one big team like 2007 where we had groups of 4 with 4 teams

Its easy said than done. We aren't the richest of board. And what are the big boards doing to help? Nothing. BD might have been in them situation once but everyone knew with the population and fanbase it was matter of time how big BD becomes as cricket nation. Result showing.

I do feel bad for the assocites, hope some boards can least play their A teams against them. Why can't they send A teams to tour Europe against Ire, Scot and Ned. That be a good way helping them develop some skills playing more.
