Default Rafiq-----opening batsman

As we've already seen Rafiq's hard heating strokes against the Zimbabweans, I think he should open with Javed Omar. Nafees Iqbal & Shariar Nafees both failed in their warm-up matches. So why not try Rafiq instead?

You have a point. He will score between 1 to 10 and so has every other opener except Omar.

Why not have contest in Ebay? The highest bidder gets to open for BD.

its really dipressing to know that even after all this people dont understand the difference between playing against the new ball and the old ball and playing against zimbabwe and australia.

So very true.

Hats off to one of the voices of sanity ... somewhat rare amongst us BD fans

Why do you think rafique couldn't play the new ball after even being successful as an opener several times......

Rafique more of a slogger than a batsmen with good technique. We need Javed and N. Iqbal to open because in English ball swings more comp. to BD. Rafique cant be much successful here like how he was in BD. Even in the test matches he couldnt play better.

Well...the ball swings...all they do is edge it to G jones and will edge it to gilcrist.
Instead of that even if the bowl goes for one or two fours over the bowlers' heads whats the problem?
I will think the experimental openers will do far betta than specialist ones.
my line up:
Javed
Rafique
Aftab
Ashraful
Bashar
Tushar
Rana
Mashud
Taposh
Mashrafee
Nazmul

Well, it was decided earlier by the Team Management and the Chief Selector, that only regular openers are going to open the batting order and no experiment will be carried out with part-timers. Accordingly they have decided that JO and N. Iqbalare going to be the openers for the series. So, we can end up any speculation about opening by Rafiq or anybody else.

But FRB, this is the same Rafiq, who scored a century, where a new ball was taken and batted against pacers like Best, Collins, Edwards and Lawson. I remember, at that moment I was also thinking that he cannot survive those pacers with the new ball. But he proved me wrong. Albeit Test and ODI are different ball game.
