In reality there is 8 pacers, only 1-2 will be successful the rest will be imprisoned in domestics.

That's reality folks.

Khaled Ahmed - another find from last pacer hunt, picked by Dhaka in the upcoming BPL.

Flying under the radar

Khaled Ahmed is a quick bowler from Sylhet, and was one of the uncapped players that Dhaka picked up in the draft last month. His first-class (average 35) and List A (only one match played) figures do not suggest it, but he is known to be quite promising.

Saifuddin's three wickets vs Chittagong. He cleverly used slower deliveries, all three wickets were due to mistiming of batsmen.

As for Hossain Ali, he bowled at 135-140 KPH on his BPL debut, which is exciting for a 19 years old. However, he was no match for Tharanga-Fletcher.

He looks kinda short but had a nice action if I saw clips of the right guy.

^^ You can see his bowling from min 44. You're right about his height, perhaps an inch or two taller than Farhad Reza.

Not promising then. 6 foot height minimum requirement. Even Taskin at 6-2 wasnt getting bounce in SA like Rabada and Morkel.

Thats why Hasan Ali and Bumrah most likely wont be threatening Test bowlers.

^^ Fizz is below 6 feet as well. True, Hossain Ali won't scare international players with pace and bounce alone. He needs to develop some skills.

Fizz is the same height as Waqar and Shoaib and taller than Steyn I think. He's around 6 feet, marginally less. Fizz will probably excel in asian conditions as most pacers excel in home conditions anyways. I liked what I saw of Fizz in the Chittagong Test vs Australia...that was quite a decent spell of quick bowling at decent pace as well.

^^ Both Fizz and Rubel are 5'11", an inch taller than Steyn. If you look at those examples, height does not seem to be any indication who will be more successful at Test cricket.

Think Hossain Ali is 5'10"

Too early to come to a conclusion or even speculate tbh.

Fizz is about 5-11 or 6-0 even...around the same height as Riyad. Rubel is 5-9 or 5-10 and definitely shorter than Fizz by about 2 inches. Here's a good pic to show that Fizz is taller than Rubel:

McInnes stated that of all the great fast bowlers in modern times, very few have been under 6 feet tall (Marshall and Steyn being the only ones off the top of my head).

There have been a few good ones like Vaas and Ntini, but even those guys are exceptions rather than the rule.

Since 6-2 seems to be the upper height limit for Bangladeshis, we may not be able to produce a truly great quick, except by freak chance.

Holding, Garner, Walsh, Ambrose, Wasim, McGrath, Roberts, Starc, Cummins, Hazelwood, Rabada, Donald are all well over 6 feet.

Even Jimmy Anderson is 6-2 and isnt considered a tall or express quick who gets a lot of bounce.

So even Fizz is up against it due to his height, but he at least Waqar and Shoaib height, albeit yards slower.

Wasim Akram is 6'2", Imran Khan 6'1". Waqar and Shoaib are 6'0" as you already mentioned. Brett Lee is also 6'2". You don't have to be freakishly tall to be a great fast bowler. Bounce is only one component of fast bowling, not all about it.

Taskin is 6'2" as well. He is failing in Test cricket because of his lack of skills and intelligence, not because lack of few inches.

Its not just about skills though. There is a very high correlation of height above 6 feet and status as an ATG fast bowler. In fact there are very few fast bowlers period under 5 feet 10 and virtually none under 5-8.

Skills are of course the most important component, but can be improved. Height can't be coached, thus it needs to the first factor in filtering bowlers out.

^^ Still will disagree. Mohammad Sharif, before injury, was one of the finest bowlers Bangladesh had produced. He made up his lack of height with his skills with skiddy deliveries. Yes, 5'8" or taller is something we should look for, but it should not be a hard requirement.

That Khaled Ahmed guy is something special.
Keep him as far away from Walsh as possible.

It's about skills not height only, Rabada stood next to taskin at one point before the day started, he's no way in hell taller if anything he looked shorter than taskin

Skills are far more important than height

Two of the greatest marshal and Steyn were 5 10''

Being taller helps no doubt, but you don't need to be 6'5'', anything under 6' you will need to be incredibly skilled though

I am more worried about how bulky those Sylheti pacers, bar Ebadat, are turning out to be. Both Rahi and Raju used to be thin and fit during their U/19 days, both bulked up afterwards. Raju already lost significant amount of pace to injury, others should watch out too.

Ebadat looks to be the only one ready for a national team call up. Khaled looks suitable for LOI cricket only.

Abu Hider still doing well and getting breakthroughs. Decent economy too. Should be kept around the national team for T20s.

AA, Fizz, and AH Rony should be our main T20I pacers.
