Back to topic:

Mominul has a terrific record in BD. Needs to work on his overseas record. He is a strong player of pace and a strong player of spin (looks like has been working on his weakness against off spin). His average in NZ/SA is 29.83 which is not terrible by Bangladeshi standards. If he can get that up 35-40, no reason why he can't be at the level of Jayawardene, Younis, Laxman, etc.

Right now he's a poor man's Joe Root.

Momin has not been as successful on Mirpur as he has been on ZACS. Still hoping to see couple of good innings from him.

Despite his heroics on featherbeds of Chittagong earlier this year, Momin's average in last three years is now 29. Soumya currently seems to be a better Test prospect than him.

Trying to turn him into ODI batsman wasn't a good idea , he should have been told to just concentrate on Tests which was his strength but no the selectors must pick him for ODIs also and kept insisting on sending him to limited overs A tours in the hopes of turning him into a ODI player as well.

Seems so lazy and lethargic. Turning into another could have been.

And yes he was never a white ball player

He seems to be going downhill with every season. He should always be batting at #4 – that's where most of his success has been. Ever since he has moved batting at #3, he has struggled badly. I still keep him in the test side since we don't have anyone else, yet.

9 from 13 balls, mominul trying to be a white ball player in test cricket now. It's a pity his career is going down

Lost his game. Been a passenger for so many test now. And people wanted him in LOI. He needs to go back domestic and work hard. Just because of his early years good batting now he has free license for life, it seems.

His average in test for the past 2 years except for the 1 game against Sri Lanka is 19. That's not a "test specialist".

But we don't really have anyone else. Don't forget, he's not a regular in the other forms, so it makes it much harder. I'll still stick with him since we don't have anyone one better. Also, we don't play much tests either, so that can play a roll. He may be out of form, but his overall test stats is still better than any other batsman we have at the moment.

We have three more tests coming up...that too at home. I would still persist with him until then.

The only thing is dhud bhaat is his lazy footwork.

Trying to think how he scored all those tons. I guess it was on indeed HIGHWAY any bounce, any movement he has zero footwork, hardly moves in defence so lazy. Take an example for the 2nd innings, similar soft dismissal like Kyes and DullAH in the first innings.

Tendulkar's average when you subtract his 51 Test tons is just 32.

http://stats.espncricinfo.com/ci/eng...s;type=batting

Mominul has slipped in the past 4 years, but his averages aren't that poor:

Shakib - 43
Tamim - 37
Mushy - 35
Mosaddek - 35
Imrul - 31
Momin - 30
Soumya - 29
Liton - 26
Sabbir - 24

But since 2016, we have started to play on tough wickets at home and the averages are as follows:

Shakib - 40
Mushy - 39
Mosaddek - 35
Tamim - 33
Soumya - 32
Momin - 28
Riyad - 25
Liton - 25
Sabbir - 24
Imrul - 23

And at home sicne 2016:

Tamim - 42
Momin - 41
RIyad - 33
Mushfiq - 30
Shakib - 28
Sabbir - 23
Imrul - 22
Soumya - 16

So we actually see that Momin is one of our top 6 batters regardless, and this is while he's in poor form. He may not be at Tamim-Shakib-Mushy's level...but he's too good to drop from any Test XI.

Riyad has to go.

No point of dropping anyone if they/we aren’t going to be patient with the replacement(s).

Difference is that pitch was one of the most batting friendly ever. A bit of turn or bounce and he can't bat. He is the definition of a "flat track bully".

That was a sporting pitch, not "one of the flattest ever". By the BD innings it was turning quite sharply.

Mominul is a bit of a flat track bully, but apart from Tamim-Shakib-Mushy, which Bangladesh batsman isn't?

He's the 4th best batsmen in our Test side, and dropping him would be a blunder.

He is also playing slightly out of position at #3. His first 3 hundreds all came batting at #4 and he needs to return to that position. More so if Mushy bats at 6.

I agree with this. We have seen what he is capable of at home so let's see what he does in those upcoming tests. After that if he fails, perhaps we should look at other options.

I've not witnessed his early innings. For what I've seen so far after that, he lacks to be a no. 3 test batsman.
