Angry Oust Shakib from captaincy

BD cricket is going thorough many problems - inefficient cricket board, no coach etc.

But one of greatest mistakes was to make Shakib captain of test and T20. He is a proven selfish player - he proved it again and again, and he has failed BD in 2011 WC at home ground.

Today he could have finished Mahmudullah and Mosaddek, but he completed the quotas of proven failures like Abul and Zayed just for the sake of his EGO.

It is time that we remove Shak from BD cricket captaincy forever.

Who will lead the team? Few days ago people were criticizing Riyad and Mushfiq. Tamim is also not a captain material. Can you please give us a name that is actually a captain material in this team?

Shakib is farthest from what an ideal leader should be, has always been that. He was captain once before and during that time the world cup turned out to be a debacle. A leader cannot be hot headed , impulsive and reckless , all of which is demonstrated by Shakib. Anyone remember how he was behaving Infront of the TV camera showing inappropriate gestures after getting out. And add to that he is not a thinking cricketer either. It's the lack of captaincy material in the team that led to him being captain.

ATM I would make Riyad the captain of the T20 team, he is one of the senior players and remains an underrated player. Maybe not the best but will be a better choice then Shakib

if shakib believes spinner wont do much, when 2 spinners just bring BD back to game with wkt and run check--why he brings himself instead of mahmudullah / mosaddek

then rubel, rahi, abul--

last 2 overs he can use pacer but why bringing pacer in 17, 18 overs?

afghan used rashid in last 4 overs too, they use their best bowlers. they didnt go by the formula that it doesnt matter what match demands, i will use my pacer in last 4 over.

shakib's problem is ego.He is jealous too. He wants all lime light should be on him and only on him.

for today's loss-- all the blame should go to him. he ruined the team spirit in last 4 overs

^ True. Mahmudullah is no strategic genius, but you never doubt his sincerity. He tries his best and has no ego.

As for Shakib,he is the most egotistical player. Mediocre all rounder, horrible batsman, and puts own mastani and protihingsaporayon attitude over team interest.

We played well in the t20 series in Sri Lanka. I would give these guys a chance to pull together and fight back. Mustafizur injury at the last moment didnt help our cause. Let us just wait till this series is over to see where we are. We simply do not have quality young players coming through which is a bigger worry than this series or captaincy

Shakib, Mushfiq and Tamim do not have the overall package to be captains.

These guys are still kids in the mind making rash and illogical decisions on repeat.

However I can see why Shakib was made T20 Captain. The selectors would have assumed that his plight with so many T20 international leagues would have made him use his experience. But lets be honest, our players think they dont need to learn anymore.

Mahmadullah atm looks like the only choice left, but he also cant get the best out of players as he doesnt have that personality although I think he cant make more hash of choosing bowlers. Then he starts losing games there will be an uproar to find another captain.

Whoever they pick I would not like to see regular changes to Captaincy either.

Utter non-sense. He apparently didn't use Mullah in fear of the post-match conference. How stupid that comment is! This proves that he doesn't adapt according to match situation.

^ And I always though Mushfiqur always goes by the script and Mash/Shak don't. But it looks like Shak is also a script captain. We need a skipper with modern thinking and ability to adapt.

If he was mediocre he wouldn't be on the verge of 500 International wickets and 10,000 runs and the fastest to reach that. Or be the only player to rank No.1 in ICC ranking in all 3 formats at the same time. Shakib is not be a good captain but he is a great all-rounder.

The players still have a minnow mentality. All of them including Shakib. Its evident in many ways two of which being whenever we win we never acknowledge the opposition "Williamson/Masakadza/Azhar played a great game but we were able to win". Second is from Mashrafe to Mushfiq to Shakib to Tamim and Riyad...all of them still refer to teams like West Indies, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka as "big teams". We shouldn't even refer to India or Australia in such inferiority-complex terms let alone teams at our level. Afghanistan just whopped our butts, according to logic that makes them a "big team" too.

All of our core players are 30+ now...this is the best they are going to be be. If we are lucky they have 4-5 years of peak performances left given that Mushy, Riyad, Tamim, all have terrific work ethic (Tamim more recently, don't know abotu Shak).

We don't have the skills to succeed in T20 cricket. Afghanistan is living proof of that. They have been playing top level cricket for 5 years, we've been here for 20 and they still have more IPL players than we do. We should turn our focus to Tests and ODIs instead of these meaningless T20s. We'll always make the main round of WT20 and never make the semis so no point wasting our time on that format.

Well said; couldn't agree more.

Longer format is where the skills develop and put to test (no pun intended).

Third match also lost due to Shak captaincy.

Spinners were doing well, but all good works were undone when Shak brought Abu Zayed and Haidar for 17th and 18th overs.

Mahmudullah was not given the ball again.

I agree with ToBeFair...this Shakib is no captain material.
Great athlete and cricketer though.

May be there are other areas we need to look at.

Here are the turning points:

Match 1: Shakib zero impact, treacherous umpiring to give Liton LBW which opened the flood gate.

I can understand we can be defeated in the first match. Multiple mistakes in captaincy and added trouble from above but next 2 matches when became crucial,

Match 2: Mushfiqur drops Shahzad in second over, most easiest catch for a school boy keeper, well this is Mushfiqur, still in Kindergarten, the Go-Boy same as Rashid is fixated on 19 year old

Giving Rubel the 19th over was suicidal.

Match 3: We could not make 6 runs from a 3 deliveries in a T20I? Who can we blame.

Batting in this match was a pure entertainment in terms of circus. The 2 copybook run outs can only be compared with some demon got into those players. Shakib again failed with bat. A 145 should have been chased and no excuse can be out in at that point when you already played 3 matches in the same ground.

Mullah taking the last run to put Ariful face the climax was a pure sign that he did want to take the responsibility rather escape the blame, we have seen it earlier from him reacting that way which he needs to know, does not make him anyone better. We could more appreciate if he took the responsibility, and tried to finish it off with his experience like he did recently against Lanka. Even if he failed, we would have more appreciated his attempt.

What can we say about Mushfiqur, he hit 5 fours in previous over, and then gets out and then comes to media and says, better luck next time! You can hit 5 fours, celebrate early but could never finish it off with a joy.

Go back, cry on top of Shak's shoulder and like Asia Cup no cup ever will show up in your drawing room.

I think Tamim is a better captain than Shakib after watching this afg T20 series.

Shak blames his team mates for the loss:

Quote:
Also blames Mahmudullah and Mushy for failing to finish the match
Quote:
But like a typical sub-continent leader, sees no mistakes within him.

Sid Monga has a great observation - Bangladesh also failed tactically.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/...men-bangladesh

And Captain has to lead when it comes to tactics - but in the second match, instead of playing Rashid cautiously and waiting for the last three overs, BODHAI Shakib tried to hit a premeditated six, like a typical BD batsman, and opened the flood gate. Afgans did the opposite when their scorecard stalled for a while against BD spinners. They waited instead of playing rash shots and attacked when opportunity came, and didn't try to hit a six like like our kaptin.
