Default Myth: BD is most comfortable in ODI

We need to break this dubious claim. Now is the time.

Did not we win test matches recently against worthy opponents?

Barring Afg series if you look at some of our T20 matches, a number of them we lost due to improper finishing either ehile chasing or through penultimate bowling debacles.

BD started their International T20 campaign by beating the WIndies in a world cup inauguration.

If anything this myth of being good at one format only needs to go.

Very true. We have lost close to 10 very closely contested T20Is since beginning.

Some were very heart breaking. Reasons were - as you have correctly said, either fail to finish with bat or ball.

It's definitely a myth, we didn't used to do well in Test, ODIs and T20s together once upon a time but recently when we started doing well in ODIs the fortunes also changed in the other formats at the same time.

We reached finals of last Asia Cup which was T20 format , Nidahas Trophy which was T20 format and got test wins vs England (Could have been 2-0 series win) and Australia. Got a drawn test series Away from home in Sri Lanka .
We also did well in test vs South Africa last time they toured but rain ruined the outcome.

The recent dip in form vs WI in tests and Afghanistan in t20s cannot only be attributed to formats

Not entirely a myth. We are certainly most comfortable in ODI. We don't have the composure for batting in Test cricket (even after 18 years), and we do not have the power-hitting capability for T20. The 50 over format falls right between and is more balanced for us. That's why I can see ODI format being the main source of success for next 10 years also.

The close T20 matches and all the Test wins that you are talking about came in subcontinental conditions, in pitches suited to our strengths.

But in ODI we managed to win against good teams even in alien conditions, e.g. 2015 WC, 2017 CT. So we are definitely more comfortable in the 50 over format.

Not a myth. We dont have the bowlers to take 20 wkts in tests unless it is a rank turner. We do not have the power hitters required for t20. ODI definitely suits our middle order players best.

Additionally for tests, we don't have players who are genuinely interested to play this format.

When you see them playing tests, you can instantly understand that they are simply going through the motions. You can immediately feel the lack of any intrinsic motivation.

The two key players for tests are also the two players that play global t20 leagues. So obviously they want to preserve their bodies for the t20 stint that brings bucket load of money for their family. We should accept this reality and pick the test side from the people that actually play first class cricket. We need to pick bowlers and batsman with the best FC record. Once others see that performing in FC actually results in a national team debut, ppl will try that much harder. Right now if you are a pacer you know that no matter what you do the selectors will pick rubel and shafiul in the end. This needs to change. We will propably struggle at the beginning but eventually we will have a decent test squad with this approach.

How many ODIs did those consist of? 1 ODI in 2015, 1 ODI in 2017. That doesn't prove we can win in ODIs vs good teams in alien conditions consistently. We got battered vs South Africa last time we toured as well as in New Zealand , in tests it's harder to get those one off wins , not only for Bangladesh but for every team in the world . No South Asian team has ever won a test series in Australia, South Africa but has won ODI series few times there

I agree.

We need to pick test players from our FC. And not every player needs to play all 3 formats either. For example:

1) Rubel, Soumya, Sabbir, Mullah should stick to LOI only
2) Tamim perhaps shouldn't play T20i, same goes with Mosa
3) Mushy & Shakib seem the only players that fir all 3 formats. But if any/both of them don't want to play test, we shouldn't force them. Same goes for Fizz.

Not a myth, we dont have seam bowlers fit enough to bowl test, our spinners contain but do not take wickets, our batsmen dont have temperament

In t20, we bottle it in high pressure situations and we do not have seasoned power hitters.

ODI has always been our game, this series has proven the myth even more.

We're not great in either format though ODIs seems to be our favourite.

My verdict prevails

It is a myth and the Iceman proved it.

It is not a myth, it is a fact...
Here is the reasoning.

1/ BD players are more technically gifted and not natural power hitters. Infact while lots of other countries prefer some power hitters, we truly despise them. It baffles me that we keep guys like Sabbir out of T20 team.
2/ Our bowlers are more adept to containing the batsman than wicket taking bowlers (Mustafiz is the only exception)

Shakib himself is quite good at being both a strike bowler and containing the run rate.
