Default Do you think any BD players would be chosen for a \"Subcontinent\" side?

Although it will probably never happen, do you guys think any BD players would be good enough to play in an Indian Subcontinent (Bd, Ind, Pak, SL) side for charity or whatever reasons.

Bashar?

Default Bashar in place of who?

Bashar is a good batman but if you think objectively, will he get into a middle order that will have Tendulkar, Dravid, Ganguly, Youhana, Inzamam, Sangakkara and the likes to choose from?

And I'm assuming that we are talking about a Test team. Bashar will definitely not get into a ODI side.

Agreed with sham!....we currently don't have a batsmen who can command a place in the team based on their reputation...or performance when you compare them to who they are up against! Rafique I think may stand a chance, coz he looks like the only world class SLA (in terms of consistent performance at least) in the sub-continent. Masri is goo too, but he definitely is not an automatic choice over, the rest bar shoaib who currently is a surety.

I am hoping in the next couple of years a couple of young batsmen will make a name for themselves good enough to be in a starting sub-continent XI.

Rafique will get crowded out by Murali, Kumble, Harbajan, Saqlain and Mushtaq and Masri still has some ways to go to get into the Shoaib, Sami, Vaas and Zaheer category.

However, Masri has the most potential to become one of the best quickies in the sub-continent. I think the prime years for a fast bowler is between 24-30, which is where most of the quickies mentioned above are. Masri still has a few years to go before he reaches his prime. So in about 5 years, we'll see how good Masri really is.

Right now, sadly, we don't have a player who can make it into the a subcontinental XI.

Default I have an objection to the 24 to 30 year age limit

I think that age limit in Bangladesh's case is between 20/22 to 24/26.

Example: Hasibul Hussain Shanto used to be our prime strike pace bowler, where is he now (He is 26 years old)? Answer: At the bottom. If I am correct, Shanto started his International career for Bangladesh when he was 18 years old during 1996/1997.

Where is Monjurul now (He is 24 years old)? He was 20 years old during World Cup 1999 when he was picked to play in the World cup. (although he is never a strike bowler - more of a line length bowler)

The truth of the matter is, a fast bowler of Bangladesh does not have enough stamina / physical fitness to play at the International stage for more than 5 to 7 years.

How does Rank 34 (Bashar) get in the over rank 37 (Shourav) or below???

Is that the question?

Right about ODI. I wasn't thinking that. Yeah, for ODI, we only have Masri who still not up to par. We used to have Kapali, but he recentry became another Ashraful.

Why do u say that????

I think he will mature to be one of the best bowlers we ever had... He will be the first ''fast bowler'' we will have unless a speedstar arises for the BD team out of the BD air... Let me remind you we still do not have a fast bowler. Strike bowlers are not necessarily fast bowlers. Wasim, Waqar, Lee, Srinath (although not really fast) etc are faw bowlers... I doubt if Sri lanka even has fast bowlers yet... If Masri improves on what he is he will be the first and I have complete faith in him...

In reply to the main question: Bashar (as a first down batsman) and Rafique (as a specialist left arm spinner partnering with Muralitharan and a tail ender slog batman)... Rafique is a easy inclusion... in my opinion... with his recent performance he has shown what he is made of... not only to us but to the whole world

Shoaib...Shoaib Akhtar! He destroyed us...then he destroyed South Africa...He is in really big form right about now...and he deserves to be in the team on merit and despite his BIG mouth!

Thats my opininion too, no BD players are ready to be part of a Subcontinent team. But hey, we have a very new team with a lot of talent! Give it a few years. With some hard work, we could get somewhere.
