Default indian batting lineup

have a look at this lineup

1.gambhir 2.tendu 3.sehwag 4.dravid 5.yuvraj 6.dhoni 7.raina 8.pathan

it seems like india has the best batting lineup in the world at the moment. infact i think india had a very powerful batting lineup for last 3-4 years. though there may be a debate whether australian lineup is better than this or not.
what do u think?

All I can say is you are missing Kaif. haha. Put Kaif instead of Raina and it gets even better.

India always enjoyed a strong batting lineup for the past 2 decade both in test and ODI. They were 9 deep. In-form Danguly, Azharuddin was better than any of them (except Tendu) mentioned above. Go back a little you'll find Shidhu, Shastri, kapil.
SM Gavaskar, K Srikkanth, DB Vengsarkar, M Amarnath, SM Patil, Kapil Dev, SMH Kirmani that line up wasn't bad either.

well the question remains, is this indian batting lineup best in todays cricket world? We are not comparing it with old indian batting lineup. I think it is.

Well Cats_Eye wasn't comparing. He was pointing out the legacy of deep batting line-ups in the Indian team. I also tend to agree with him there. Even not too long ago they had a player by the name of Manoj Provakar. Anyone remember that guy? Opening batter, bowler. They had Jadeja coming in late middle order, Mongia, and even Srinath was a very good slogger. I don't ever recall them playing with a batting line up less than 7 batsmen deep. Having said that, I simply think the current line-up has the promise to become formidable in no time, depending on who clicks on what day. And if 2 or more of them click on the same day, boy - the bowling team is on some leather hunt. I have turned into a big Dhoni fan overnight. I have watched the highlights from his monster knock over and over, and was watching the 4th ODI highlights before making this post. I can't wait to see him in the test arena, and will be closely following his career. I am not so sure about Raina though. He is just an 18 year old kid, right? I have heard Shastri say good things about him, but I believe he is mostly unproven at this stage.

Definately Raina hasn't proved anything yet. However, he played a good knock in 5th oneday after India was down 180 for 6. Actually I like Venugopal Rao better as he has a cool head in his shoulder. I don't know why they dropped him though.
