I can still feel the pain when we have won 3 game out of 99 ODI with a good bunch of mediocre players. I don't want to see similar stats again even in my wildest dreams. Mind it, depth, ability only counts when you win.
The point I was trying to get across I guess, was that it will give other players, in Ashraful's absense, the chance to mix it with the best in the International stage, and perhaps, just perhaps, make a name for themselves. Experience is priceless. When I quoted the word "mediocre", I was actually making a joke at someone's post from another thread (I think it was you!). Because obviously very few of the players in our current squad are in fact "mediocre" (just because you are not a match-winner does not mean that you are 'crap'!). I don't want crap players playing for us!

We need to take this time (if infact Ashraful, and others are given an extended spell) to trial our up-and-coming youngsters (as Australia is doing in this series with Dan Cullen, Mitchell Johnson & Mark Cosgrove) and also give our other talented and recognised players the final chance to shine. While we are on this topic, I suggest trialing Mushfiqur Rahim in the leadup to the Champions Trophy/World Cup. He is clearly a talented player and figures heavily in our future plans, and this could be the logical progession for him into our Test squad, in future.

That said, the last thing we need right now is wholesale changes. We need to take in a cohesive team into the major tournaments that are coming up, but that does not mean we cannot tinker slightly (e.g. batting order) with one or two positions in order to get the best out of our team and our individual players. The last thing we want, as you said, is to go back to times where our record read "won 3 game out of 99 ODI". Finally, the quote you referred to was in fact a point which I split into two parts. The second half immediatly follows the first. Keep in mind the word "mediocre" is not to be taken literally!
