Default Whatmore speaks out too

Bangladesh still have a long way
to go, says Whatmore

A devastated coach Dav Whatmore has said Bangladesh team will have to go a long way to reach a standard.
“All I can say now is I am very disappointed and Bangladesh team have to go a long way to attain a standard,” the Sri Lanka-born Australian told New Age soon after arriving in the city from Colombo on Thursday noon.
When asked how long the Tigers would have to travel reach a standard, the coach assured that the destination is not far off. However, he agreed that they are still to find the right combination and for this a long open discussion with the selectors is needed.
“We had some good matches in the recent series against Pakistan, West Indies and Zimbabwe in the limited-over versions and then played disappointingly at the Asia Cup. So there is no reason to be pessimistic about Bangladesh cricket,” he added.
Whatmore, who always believed that there is a psychological barrier between the big guns and the minnows, was silent when questioned several times whether the Tigers were beset by nervous problems during the tournament.
The coach also backed the selectors saying the team selection was proper for the Asia Cup and there was no need to pick a back-up opener.
“We have a short selection, so you cannot induct everyone into the team,” said the confident coach.
“But yes we need to hold a meeting with the section committee to find the right combination in order to solve some problems permanently.”
When asked whether he believes that the Champions Trophy squad needs a radical change, Whatmore hinted anything can happen after the meeting which is expecting to be held on Saturday.
Chief selector Faruque Ahmed said they are already thinking about the Champions Trophy squad. He also hinted he will sit with other selectors on Thursday night before holding a threadbare discussion with the national coach.
He informed the BCB will give the decision whether Abdur Razzak will be considered for selection or not. Faruque also hinted there is almost no chance of recalling Shahriar Hossain who was excluded due to injury.
The chief selector admitted that they are handicapped by the injuries of some brilliant bowlers especially Mashrafe bin Mortaza.
The Bangladesh squad are expected to commence their practice session on August 10.

I agree with Whatmore, Bangladesh have a long way to go, if they are to attain a different title to what they are use to now, Whatmore is only assessing our perfomances to when he was coach of Sri-Lanka...(they were once similar to us)..so he feels our level of progression is much too slow than Sri-Lanka's was.

I thought the one further in the back was basher! You know Dav is getting tired of his bad influence in the team. So, he decided to make him sit in the back.

Its kind of like this
Stay back big dummy!!!
