It's still alive. Dhaka has gotten better during the Eid break, though.

Maybe, but not if you're living in gulshan/banani/baridhara and the other beverly hills areas of dhaka. The madams are still not done with their shopping and the crippled/deformed beggars association of dhaka have decided to launch a campaign near the stop lights.

I wanted to open a new thread about the spending habits of Dhakaites but too lazy...

Alright. Dhanmondi then. Actually, I have stopped going outside unless it's deep into the night or way early in the morning. That way I can still bring back the memory of the loving, far less hectic Dhaka I was born and grew up in.

Expect No complains from Dhaka for about a week. Could someone please post a few pictures of Dhaka during Eid? I used to love it.

Haven't seen Dhaka City in last 5 years.

Enjoyed the tour to Bashundhara City as many times I went there. Its hard to find a decent place to go. Besides if you are in a car, you are doomed. Most nights I will go out after 9 PM. to visit a relative or meet with friends in Rabindra Sorobor. Managed a good number of motor cycle rides which were fun and fastest to reach a place I must say. That is the best vehicle for a messy jammed mega city.

what was even worse, everytime we would go under a tree 60 miles an hour ( mind you, that's a lot of speed for dhaka-ctg bumpy highway on a rainy night) a young man who sat way up front of the roof would scream, "gaas ailo, gaas ailo, matha naman!" and we all would lower our heads to avoid getting killed by the branches!
Allah saved us all that time! we made it to feni and another story began! but i am here today and writing on BC!

Government should try to decentralize the small to medium business owners by improving Gazipur, Tongi, Narayanganj, Fatulla, Jamalpur and even Comilla areas with lucrative facilities the way they do it for EPZs. Moving garment industries to outskirt suburbs would be the first attempt. Also controlling number of Rickshaws and replacing it with more CNGs and reducing the number of Automobiles given permits to ply on the streets to a tangible limit are inevitable requirements. The faster they take those actions the better.

Transport should not be an issue as most highways are in much better shape than it was and now a days it takes a four hours drive to go to Srimangal, that is one example of the improved roads and highways in BD.

It became a mating place for all young people in Dhaka... actually there is more shokuns ( I mean the boys) than gorus ( I mean the girls). I heard girls get teased often by lurking shokuns.

Also avoid foods at any cost, unless you want go get sick. I waisted three of my valuable days for making that mistake last time I visited Dhaka.
