Default 2015 World Cup: Select Stats Summary

Competitive Index (CI)

Measures the relative strength of a team. Is the team's batting average multiplied by their run rate and divided by the same number for their opponent. A CI of 1 can be thought of as a team that wins as many games as they lose or whose average result is a tie. The following is only for the group stages.

3.277 - India
2.698 - South Africa
2.467 - New Zealand
2.466 - Australia
1.571 - Sri Lanka
1.196 - West Indies
1.046 - Pakistan
0.969 - Bangladesh
0.763 - England
0.523 - Ireland
0.487 - Zimbabwe
0.436 - Scotland
0.348 - UAE
0.343 - Afghanistan

We finished 8th and that makes sense given our quarterfinal appearance. Not very far away from WI at #6.

Pace Attack

Our three seamers took 24 wickets @ 35.74, conceding 5.73 an over. They ranked 9th in economy rate, and just 11th in average. By numbers they did alright, but as their rankings show, we should have done a little better.

Team Batting and Bowling

Overall run rate: 5.46
Rank: 10th
Average: 33.02
Rank: 7th

Overall economy: 5.73
Rank: 8th
Average: 39.61
Rank: 11

For all word cup matches, those in Australia saw an average scoring rate of 5.62 runs per over. In New Zealand it was only marginally higher at 5.68.

The average first innings total in full 50 over innings in each country was:

Australia: 284
New Zealand: 268

Average second innings scores were:

Australia: 207
New Zealand: 229

Obviously chasing was far easier in New Zealand as the differential between the first and second innings was much lower in NZ.

Individual

Mahmudullah finished 9th in total runs, 2nd amongst those playing 6 or fewer innings. His average of 73 ranked 5th. Shabash!

Mushfiqur was 23rd. He was 10th in strike rate (105.67) amongst those who faced at least 200 balls.

Taskin was tied for 23 in total wickets.

Shakib was 20th in economy amongst bowlers who bowled at least 36 overs.

Coulda, woulda, shoulda... had Anamul held on to the catch of Thirimanne....

These stats would have been much better. It had the domino effect in that game. Then Mominul let go of a sitter on Sangga. Ball went through Taskin's legs. Dilshan getting reprived in his 90s...

Taskin himself suffered 4 drops, all sitters (one off his own bowling). He could have averaged under 25. Rubel had guptill lbw not given. Mash had Thirimanne dropped. But most teams had dropped 5-6 catches off seamers during group stage so our ranks would not have changed much. Still not a terrible performance, but it sucks to be outplayed bynassociates like AFG, UAE, SCO. alls well since we made the QF round I guess.
