ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup Sri Lanka 2006

Super League QF draw reverts to original schedule

Brian Murgatroyd

February 10, 2006

The Technical Committee of the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup has decided to revert to the original schedule for the Super League quarter-finals following representations from participating teams, it was announced today.

The decision announced on 9 February to alter the venues for the matches - which will take place on Saturday 11 February - was taken by the Committee in an attempt to minimise the advantage gained by India and Sri Lanka, who had played all their group matches at the R. Premadasa Stadium, by switching them away from the venue.

However, after those representations it was decided to reinstate the original, publicised schedule on the basis that this was how the teams had made their match preparations.

The original schedule did not indicate which of Super League quarter-finals two and four would be played at the R.Premadasa Stadium or the Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC).

Given that the issue regarding Super League quarter-final matches at R Premadasa and SSC was based on the results in Group C, it was further decided that the winner of Group C would play its quarter-final match at R Premadasa Stadium.

As such, the draw for the Super League quarter-finals is as follows (with teams added in now that the final round of group matches has concluded):

QF 1 - Bangladesh v England at P.Saravanamuttu Stadium
QF 2 - India v West Indies at R.Premadasa Stadium
QF 3 - Zimbabwe v Pakistan at Nondescripts Cricket Club (NCC)
QF 4 - Australia v Sri Lanka at Sinhalese Sports Club (SSC)

The Plate Championship quarter-final matches were also decided in the light of the final matches in each group and those matches are as follows:

QF 1 - New Zealand v Ireland at R.Premadasa Stadium
QF 2 - Namibia v USA, SSC
QF 3 - Nepal v Uganda, P.Saravanamuttu Stadium
QF 4 - South Africa v Scotland, NCC

The Plate Championship quarter-finals will take place on 14 February.

The Super League semi-finals (on February 15 & 17) and the Super League final (February 19) will all take place at R.Premadasa Stadium and all will be televised.

The six-man tournament Technical Committee is made up as follows:

Warren Deutrom (chairman), Chris Nockels (ICC representative), Bandula Warnapura (Host Tournament Director), Anura Tennekoon (Sri Lanka Cricket representative), Richard Done (ICC High Performance Manager and independent nomination) and Graeme Labrooy (also an independent nomination).

so new venue isP.Saravanamuttu Stadium

Hope we get to Field first.

If BD bats second, our win is very likely.

Stoneman found guilty of Code of Conduct breach, receives serious reprimand

Brian Murgatroyd

February 9, 2006

England player Mark Stoneman has received a serious reprimand for breaching the ICC Code of Conduct during his country's match against Ireland in the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka.

Stoneman was found guilty of causing damage in the team dressing room at the Colombo Cricket Club (CCC) by ICC Match Referee Alan Hurst in a hearing after play concluded in Colombo on Wednesday.

Stoneman was found to have breached 1.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings.

"The player apologized for his actions and expressed embarrassment and regret at what he did. He now realises there is no place for this sort of behaviour in International cricket," said Mr Hurst.

All Level 1 breaches carry a maximum penalty of an official reprimand at the ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup 2006.

The charge was brought by ICC U/19 Cricket World Cup Tournament Director Bandula Warnapura. Mr Hurst reached his conclusion after a hearing attended by Stoneman, Travis Harris (Manager CCC), Sunil Siriwardena (Venue Security Manager), John Abrahams (England Manager) and Andy Pick (England Coach).

For Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct the ICC Match Referee's decision is final and binding.
