Ashraful voted as 'Player of the Year' by sports journalists
From BD News,
Quote:
Dhaka, Nov 20 (bdnews24.com) - Mohammad Ashraful beat footballer Arif Khan Joy and teammate Aftab Ahmed for 'Bangladesherkhela.com Player of the Year 2005' award.
IMF Rani Hamid Monday announced the name of winner at a programme at Public Library Auditorium that very much became a reunion of players, organisers and journalists.
Sports journalists have picked Ashraful for the award.
Ashraful's father Abdul Matin received the trophy and cash award of Tk 50,000 as the middle order batsman is in Chittagong to play in the Ispahani Mirzapore Tea Eighth National Cricket League.
Ashraful, dropped Sunday from the national team, got 171 points, followed by Joy's 121 and Aftab's 98. A total of 179 sports reporters, sub-editors and editors cast their votes.
Ahsraful scored 395 runs in 14 one-dayers including a century against Australia at Cardiff in 2005. The youngest Test centurion hammered 331 runs in 16 innings, including a 136-run knock against Sri Lanka, the same year in Tests.
Captain Habibul Bashar won the 'Viewers' Choice Award' beating Mohammad Ashraful and Mohammad Rafique.
Sponsor Dekko Group's Managing Director Shahadat Hossain Chowdhury handed the award to Bashar.
Bangladesherkhela.com, Bangladesh's lone sports website, also awarded Hafcha Akter a special achievement award and a cash prize of Tk 10,000.
Physically-challenged Akter clinched a gold medal in the wheel-chair marathon for the disabled person in Japan in October last year, beating 250 athletes of 20 countries.
Hit by wild poliovirus in childhood, she launched an appeal to the rich to help the disabled people.
Bangladesherkhela.com this year introduced 'Lifetime Achievement Award' that went to late footballer Monem Munna. Munna's wife Suravi Munna received the award.

I hope he gets back to the team. From Protik's news in another thread, he's probably coming back in the last two ODIs. I still believe he's a great talent for BD, and he should be able to regain his form.

leave him alone. let him fix his problem. don't rush him to do anything. we r putting a lot of pressure now. What happens if he doesn't do good in the next few NCL? he will be dropped for ever? I think since he was dropped even if its injustice we should leave him alone and not put too much bd crap in his head like our journalist r doing now. AND LET HIM PLAY. If he comes back good for him and bd but if he doesn't then we will wait until he is ready. Why put pressure that he has to play now or else ...

Joke of the year!
These are the companies like Rebok who have paid a lot money to sponsor Ashraf will be glad to hear this. Our naive supporters have turned him into a gas balloon. But history never favoures the unsuccessfuls and flukes for long. It is his last ever award to recive, anyway.

Are you a Bangladeshi? As a deshi person you should not say this.We all hope and want that Ash gets his form back and comes back. Don't be such hypocrate.

I am very sorry if I have hurt anyones feelings who worship Ashraful as their rolemodel. This is a sport forum. Please leave political jingoism out of it. If Ashraful truly values his supporters feelings he would score runs and would not sell his same old apple pie over and over again. Who made you the sole agent of distributing Bangaldeshi nationality ? About hypocracy, I'm a hypocrate a lot of times, though I hate to admit it.
